I grew up here and I remember .....

I remember.....on hot summer nights, we used to jump the fence of the water towers on Radnor Rd in Bethesda and take a swim in the community water supply.

Do you think we will ever have a time of freedom again in our lives like high school summer nights? (Why do I hear Bob Seger's "Night Moves" playing in my head?)

What if would give.......

I remember when movies were $1!
And I remember when there weren't so many cars around!
And before the local roads were converted to highways/freeways.

And the worse part, I was a refugee-new to the area in 1980s. And people made fun of us-we were 7 years old. And I still see the same thing.

I remember when River Rd was a dirt road.

Why were there so many surf shops back then for an area so far from the beach. Bethesda Surf Shop long sleeve t shirts were all the rage in my high school.

It was the "in" thing even through 90% of the cool kids didn't even surf;

-kind of like anyone who has ever visited an ocean now sports a "Salt Life!!" Sticker on their car.

I remember hanging out at the Fritzbe's in Reston, before they changed Hunter Mill Plaza all around.

I remember spending all my money at Kemp Mill Records.

Someone upthread mentioned Farrell's. I remember whenever anyone ordered one of their awesome huge ice cream sundae concoctions. I seem to recall sirens blaring...

No one mentioned Mel Krupin's, Mike Baker's, Cafe Lautrec or Cities, or the 1789 when the front dining room was the Cheers of the Georgetown set!

To all of you noting Rumours, the Bottom Line, Mr. Days, the Sign of The Whale and so many more, the bartenders of that era would like to thank you for putting them through college and grad school. Many of us made it through debt-free owing to your generosity!

I spent my childhood in Sign of the Whale! My father probably generously contributed to many college tuitions

And we loved serving you Shirley Temples in pint glasses and putting the mars chino cherries on the bar so you could gorge yourself to illness!

This is a great post!

I remember when White Flint was a field. We used to ride mini bikes there. My favorite memory of the field is of the MoCo Poo Poo getting his cruiser stuck in the field while chasing us.

What was the sports store behind White Flint? I bought my rugby shirts there. Lived next to Georgetown Prep. Rode my ten speed up and down Rockville Pike and Wisconsin Ave. to G'town.

Am I the only person who still refers to CVS as People's sometimes?

No, I sometimes refer to CVS as People's. However, most natives know what I'm talking about. It's the transplants who look at me like, "WTH is a People's?"

+1
I do too. Also, I remember Dart Drug!

"Transplant" here. I remember Dart, People's, and over half of what is mentioned on this thread!
