My starting weight was 208, I have an actual medical condition that makes it very difficult to lose weight but I have finally seen success. I am now 190 after about 7 months on a new routine.
At how many pounds of loss normally do people have issues with loose skin that they might want to surgically address? I have zero desire to deal with that (I was not and am not that unhappy with myself this is really about health). I kind of want to switch to a 'maintain' strategy at some point. If its at 30 pounds I'd honestly be totally fine hanging out at 180 for forever. But if its more like 50-60 I'll probably shoot for something like 160. |

There is no formula. Weightloss affects everyone's skin differently.
I lost 50-60 lbs (185-125/130) and have loose skin and deflated boobs. On the one hand, I don't love that part of weightloss. On the other hand, it's evidence of my hard work, and also how much stronger I am. The tradeoff is worth it. |
| OP, given your medical issues, I'd do this with the guidance of a doctor or nutritional specialist. |

Totally depends on your skin and age. Hereditary factors.
I got up to 190 with one of my pregnancies, a 70 lb gain. Lost it all and then some within 2 years and no skin issues. It surprised me, given that I was mid to late 30s. I was willing to stop trying when I got down to 140 because it first appeared like my stomach skin would sag. But, I kept going anyway and by the time I was 120 everything was taught. I had the body of a fit 20 year old, no joke. Good luck! |
? You don't know what my medical issues are |
Thank you! I have been this heavy for about a decade and had three pregnancies in that time (although I only ever got about 10 pounds heavier in pregnancies thankfully. Hereditary sounds about right. I also have some minor diastasis which is making me think that its going to happen one way or another! |

I don't know the answer, but I would think it would be a great deal of weight loss (like 70-100+ lbs) before you would have a noticeable saggy skin issue.
I gained almost 60 lbs when I was pregnant with my son when i wasn't all that thin to begin with and my stomach was enormous. Went from 205 to 135 since then and have no stretch marks and only a small amount of loose skin. And you can really only see it when I slouch forward. FWIW I'm 39 years old. |
Going from about 165 to 112 (most of that being pregnancy-related and I'm 5'1"), my stomach does have loose skin on it. It's not tons, but it's definitely there. But it's totally worth it. I have the body that I want, and if I really hated the extra skin, I'd get it surgically removed. |
Why the antagonism? If you have medical issues, why not see a doctor? No need to get so defensive. I'm trying to be helpful. |
| It is highly personal. Drink lots of water to help with skin elasticity. |
I didn't think that was antagonistic but I suspected you were trying to get a rise out of me and this response certainly confirmed it. You're not trying to be helpful. You made a recommendation that implied knowledge but was based in none. I know its not particularly useful to engage with trolls on DCUM but they really do annoy me. |
What? I'm 100000% not. Where are you getting that from? If someone has a medical issue, it's not being a troll to suggest they see a doctor. Have a nice day. |
NP. I agree. OP if you have medical issues, I would at least engage a nutritionist. I have lost over 100lbs (127) to be exact, and I have a tone of sagging skin. It started around the 50lbs. You said you had medical issues that made it difficult to loose weight. So how can we advise you if we don’t know your medical issues? But your doctor would. |
Perhaps I misread pps intention. And clearly would come off as very defensive to them (and you) if that’s the case. I guess it seemed like it was offering advice to a question I didn’t ask and making a lot of assumptions. I didn’t ask for advice about my medical issues, I didn’t ask for advice on losing weight. I am losing weight slowly and steadily and I’m aware of my condition so I’m confused as to why people would think I needed to do that/that I’m not already doing that. I’m not a person with an issue wondering what to do and how to lose weight. I’m a person fully informed about my condition who has successfully lost almost 20 pounds responsibly this year. Your fourth and fifth sentences answered my question and I thank you for offering that. |
Your first post said you "have an actual medical condition" OP. You sound defensive and now people who would have might have helped you are put off. |
