| Met a couple of friends at a usually deserted playground this morning and there were 2 woman there with 3 kids. As we got out of our cards they started at us for a almost a minute. They were both wearing long denim skirts, and long sleeve blouses. I understand the religious aspect of keeping skin covered but is there a religious connection to the long denim skirt? When I see people dressed like this I think “ fundamentalist Christians “ who probably homeschool their kids and are very subservient spouses. Feel free to correct me if I’m wrong....... but my general question is the denim skirts? |
| Well, they can’t wear pants so they wear the closest thing to jeans allowed, i.e. a long denim skirt. |
| Orthodox Jewish women? |
That would be my first guess. OP, what Christian sect has a clothing requirement like that? |
Sister wives and some evangelicals. |
| Eh. It’s their version of jeans. Indestructible and will go with any top. |
| Gypsies and Christian right wing nutters. |
But wouldn’t they be either at synagogue or at home today? |
I think you can walk and go to the park as long as you don’t drive there |
Apostolic Pentecostals and mennonites |
Depending on how strict they are, they can do it as long as they are within their local eruv. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eruv What city were you in? In the DMV area, I think they are much more likely to be orthodox Jews than fundamental Christians. |
| Lol. I remember back in the ‘90s that was a cool look, for a second. |
| Definitely sister wives. |
| I feel like orthodox women tend to not wear denim skirts. Did they also have their heads wrapped or look like they were wearing wigs? If not my guess is not orthodox - esp since they were driving. |
That does not match my experience. I’ve seen often. |
