“What nobody told the people of Bethesda was that the graffiti painter of both Whitman incidents was African American — or that in the last incident, both of his casual companions were themselves also targeted minorities, or that they had no idea, and could not even imagine, what their African American friend would paint until he did,” he said, describing the hate incidents as “hoax crimes.”
On June 14, one of the juvenile suspects and Hoffman spoke with officers about the vandalism at the school. During a police interview, the juvenile allegedly took full responsibility for the vandalism and admitted to committing it because “he thought it would be fun to have something make the news given the current events occurring in the United States.” https://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2020/aug/18/attorney-manuel-miranda-montgomery-county-police-m/ |
| This cannot be true. |
Why can’t it be true? Hoax crimes have happened before. |
The principal and MCPS strongly condemned the incident and made it sounded like a crime committed by white students. I doubt if they would say the same if it was a hoax. |
It's fake news spread by Trumpers. |
| According to my neighbor who teaches at Whitman, this is 100% true. |
and also 100% infuriating! |
| Was the school made aware of the identities of the charged minors? |
Made aware? MCPS has the video. |

Interesting. I suspected something like this when all of a sudden some families particularly engaged in fighting racism at WW didn't quite make the uproar I expected after this incident.

This happened at Salisbury University. An AA male painted racist statements on buildings on the campus. Campus was closed for a number of days due to this.
Whites were blamed. It ended up being an AA male. He was prosecuted. He will serve 18 months. https://www.delmarvanow.com/story/news/local/maryland/2020/06/08/salisbury-university-racist-graffiti-guilty-plea-planned-jail-time-sought/5321645002/ |
The principal continued to refer to the vandalism as "racist grafitti" in communication with the school community AFTER the suspects were charged. That's unacceptable. |
| Same thing happened at UMD a few years ago. The painted swastikas all over campus were blamed on white supremacists and a bunch of UMD policies got changed and initiatives launched and bureaucrats hired on tax payer dollars. Guess what, it was a black employee the whole time who was paintin the swastikas |
There is a supply and demand problem with bigotry. Whites just aren't as racist as they're made out to be. Hoaxes are now more common than actual racist incidents. |
Not following the parallel unless the black employee was also Jewish. |
