She has 45,000 IG followers. That’s incredibly small potatoes. Her aesthetic is fine. Nothing special but fine. She’s no hot mess Sarah Tondello and she’s never had a huge family tragedy driving followers like NieNie or Brittany Boren Leach. She’s not a right wing nut job or Q Anon proponent. She seems kind of nice but boring. Who are all these people who care so much about a blogger with 45k followers? Did she piss off people in real life or something? I’d ask on GOMI but they’ve never approved my registration. |

Someone didn't like her, so they started a thread, and a lot of people decided they don't like her. It's a place where people go to talk trash about internet personalities, so it's not hard to 1) start a thread about someone relatively obscure, and 2) find other people to hate on a given site/person with you.
I suppose if she wanted to know why, she could read the thread there (looks like there are specific things they dislike, even if a given person might not agree) or post anonymously somewhere else and ask why. Or anyone could. There are certain Laws of the Internet, like Rule 34. One of them is (or should be) that if you post on the internet, someone will dislike you. It's how it works. |
I suppose. But she isn’t some big name mommy blogger train wreck like Dooce - she’s just some no-namer! With a pretty average-looking life. I was wondering if she, like, had a huge controversy I wasn’t aware of, but I skimmed her thread (definitely not reading all 950 pages lol) and it’s just “her house is stupid, I hate her curtains” over and over. And when I go to the mommy bloggers category in GOMI, there’s her thread at the top every day. It’s weird. |
You triggered bro? |
| I follow people on IG with a blog and 150k followers on IG and their GOMI threads are like 4 pages. |
| From Gomi back in 2014 when the thread started: |
Things you need to know: She's addicted to internet message boards. She started her claim to fame by posting on a DMB board where she met her husband. She would post countless selfies and watch the Victoria's Secret Fashion Show with these dudes who would call the models "thick" Her husband's screen name was "cash" as in cash money…because he's rich? She "starred" in a "movie" depicting how difficult it is to be pretty. ** you don't have permission to see this link ** She's always been super vague about how they met and only when called out on GOMI did she *finally* admit they met online. She lied about when they got married, had a secret wedding for a green card and the pretty, pretty princess day a year or two later. She's from Canada and they live in Texas. Most of us know her from TheKnot (she's also a frequent poster on TheNest, TheBump and GBCN). There, she was encouraged to start her blog and from then on has pimped the blog through message boards to gain a wider audience. Most of our general dislike of Veronika comes from her online activities, things she has said and things she has done. Unfortunately, in typical Veronika fashion, she has deleted all of her previous screen names and posts. She has done this before in the past. Her IG followers are insane. They ask her the most asinine questions and she answers with authority in a "teaching" tone. It's the biggest freaking trainwreck in progress. She has a Google Alert on herself and reads GOMI religiously. |
Not so much. From the first two pages of the 953:
And these, specifically:
If you respond, you fuel it. I went and looked at her site, going through the first 5 pages. I do not recommend it. Dang, about 90% of the posts were frankly sponsored or about products she had bought, mostly from WalMart, Target, and Amazon. I mean, I don't claim she doesn't have leeway to post an ode to consumerist capitalism AND make a buck or two on it in the process, but it's a bunch of pictures of a pastel and white house, cheesy posed pictures of her laughing at an imaginary friend off to her right (why is it always to the right?), and LOTS and LOTS of product endorsements, plus the rest of it above -- gah. Go ahead if you want to. I understand the snark. I guess there isn't much people find to be redeeming features, and a lot to make fun of. I'd rather just not bother, myself. |
I read that a long time ago - I guess that really explains the megathread? If she was on the radar of a lot of people who were also on other message boards. I posted on The Knot a long while back, I wonder if we posted at the same time or who she was on there. I never made the switch to The Nest or Bump though. |
Oh, I think there's plenty to dislike on her blog currently. But the impetus for the GOMI thread probably goes far back from that. It's not like the blog is something to look forward to right now, though. It's mostly a catalogue of things to buy interspersed with the visual equivalent of vocal fry and uptalk. |
| Same reason the Kane Show has an 88 page thread: People have too much time on their hands. |
| There's something really weird about GOMI. |
| Right. Like, are you expecting a five point plan and levelheadedness from Alice? Since when? |
| Who is Alice |
DCUM is pretty weird too. And it just takes a few crazies to blow up a thread, look at some threads here |
