| I just logged into the College Board website to add a school to my DS’s score report recipients, and the August 29th registration was gone. Completely missing. I called the College Board, waited on hold FOREVER, and was told that the test center limited the number of seats and my DS’s registration was one of the registrations arbitrarily cancelled. Neither DS nor I have received any email or official word from other the test center or the College Board yet and clearly haven’t gotten a refund yet. I’d fight it but I don’t even know how. I know many people are planning to drive pretty far away to try get this SAT in. Make sure you check the website before you depart. |
Where were you going to take it? My kid is signed up to take it at Shepherd University next week. |
| Thank you Op. This is the reason to read DCUM |
PP, will you post back if the test actually happens? My son was too late to register for August when his test site closed, but is scheduled to take the test at Shepherd later in the fall. |
OP here: test center was Forest Park HS in Prince William County, VA |
| Same here, luckily DC knew to check the closed centers list and saw it was cancelled, the day after the final test center change deadline. Was super upset. PP, college board likely hasn’t communicated this, but Shepherd is closed. See the list of closed sites here: https://collegereadiness.collegeboard.org/sat/register/test-center-closings |
The fact that it was the day after the final change deadline really smarts. DC’s been registered since the day registration opened and prepping. |
| The College Board told you they just picked students at random for cancellation? I guess I had thought there would be specific criteria (first to sign up or preference for seniors with no scores). But maybe not. |
Super annoying but frankly not surprising. Fingers crossed the same doesn’t happen for Sept SAT |
Shepherd is listed as a closed test site now, so probably everyone was cancelled. I wish CollegeBoard would step up and try and figure out locations and staffing so they can these tests. I understand that they couldn't build the internal capacity to host SATs in the spring, but they have had all summer to figure this out. Seems like it is in their best interest for longevity of the organization to get these tests going again. |
Pp here. Thanks for that. DD is also in to Woodgrove HS soon I think. And her school may host for seniors. |
Ughhhhhhh. That is my kid's center. Was kicked out, day-of, for the ACT due to capacity issues. Hoped we'd have better luck with the SAT. Thanks PP for the heads up!!!! |
College Board phone service person who finally picked up didn’t know the criteria, so i asked for someone who did know, she gave me a case number and told me someone would be in touch in 4-5 business days. Which is of course too late to do anything about it. The person also said all decisions were made by the test center so who knows. |
Yep. It is a perfect system in which none of the parties involved in offering the test have any accountability, but the families of kids trying to take the test are getting screwed at every turn. College Board: "I'm sorry, we don't control the test sites. Those decisions are made independently at the sites." Test Site Administrators: "We canceled too late for you to register for another test? Well, we have absolutely no control over the registration process. Try to find an site open for another date." Parent:
