How is va tech doing?

Dropped off my daughter yesterday. I am so nervous! She is alone in her dorm room, roommate decided not to go

You are a Tech parent. You probably know as much as anyone else.

Here's VT's dashboard: https://ready.vt.edu/dashboard.html

5 cases so far before classes started.

If they're just moving in, it will be a little bit before we start hearing

Adding to above: it's too early to tell how they are doing.

Most colleges usually have a dashboard you can visit at this point.

Good luck. We live in MD and my high stats rising senior kid is really interested in the school. It seems like a great place. Wishing you best of luck.

They don't seem to have a lot of testing results. Out of 30K plus students plus all the staff, faculty, admin etc. they only have 3658 tests on the dashboard--so it's very very early days. Though very low positivity rate for the tests they do have. All students had to self-quarantine for 14 days before coming to campus.

Interesting about the self quarantine (good idea!)
I don't have a child going there but I have a few casual friends (mostly just see posts on Facebook from them these days) with kids there, and they seemed to move their kids in last weekend. Did all students move in about then, or was it a more staggered move in schedule?

True. But I am worried about parties. My kid won’t tell me anything about it

They didn’t “have” to quarantine, they just have to say they quarantined. Not being argumentative but I just don’t believe enough of the kids are following the rules. Asking them to not say goodbye to their friends or hang out the last two weeks of their previous lives is too much to ask of many.

I have been tracking the schools. I see no increase in the background numbers in Blacksburg since the students started coming back. I will be updating this daily.

Public dashboards are dumb. All they do is provide fodder for gossip, social media and news outlets that serves no purpose. The universities are accountable to their students and staff, not a bunch of fear-mongering talking heads. If there’s news, you’ll hear it from your kid, and if your kid isn’t at Virginia Tech, we’ll, this doesn’t concern you.
