Looking for a progressive, woman-empowering, feminist OB practice in the DMV area

Anonymous
Hi ladies!

Has anyone here stumbled across an OB/GYN practice in the D.C. area that they’d like to recommend? I am looking for a practice that has a pro-choice, no judgment attitude towards women who choose to live and express their femininity in non-traditional ways?

If you’d like to recommend particular doctors, I’m listening.

Thanks, y’all!

Thank you, but they don’t offer services in the area that I’m looking for.

I need an OB practice that’s more general and more tech-focused.

Can you be more specific?

Yes, more specificity please. It seems like there's something you're not saying. So far your list is:

- general
- tech focused (what does that mean in the context of an OBGYN practice?)
- pro choice attitude
- no judgement attitude towards women who "choose to live and express their femininity in non-traditional ways" (can you give some examples of these non-traditional ways?)

Help us, help you

I am the OP. Looking for an OB/gyn office/provider affiliated with any of the area hospitals. I’ve familiarized myself with the philosophy of midwifery before and they are not for me — too old-school, “holistic”, rigid, and almost with an agenda. I am looking for someone who empowers women not by telling them what to do but by asking them what they would like to do and helping them go for it. Someone who’s non-judgmental in regards to abortion, LGBTQ issues, permanent birth control & child-free by choice, etc.

That sounds like most OBs in the area.

I think the GW MFA practice has a lot of OBs like this.

This.

And, FWIW: my experience has been that male doctors are more compassionate and less judgmental than female OBs. Perhaps it’s because most female OBs have personally BTDT and use their own experience to judge you?

Signed,

Pushing 50 with 4 births plus 2 miscarriages and a variety of weird gyn issues over the years, so I’ve seen a ton of doctors in the dc metro area

+2

For that matter, this also describes my experiences with one of the area's hospital-based midwife practices.
OP, I'd say nearly all practices in this area fit.

I never thought I’d see someone picking an obgyn based on how woke they are but there it is...

Agree with this. They only care about whether you’re getting appropriate preventative care (paps, prenatal, etc) and if you’re in an abusive relationship. If yes to the first and no to the second, they don’t care about your sexual or reproductive choices.
