Runners- what are you listening to while you run?

Looking for inspiration and a change of pace.

Nothing, I just get lost in my thoughts or conversation when I run with friends.

The voices in my head

I’m an almost exclusive outdoor runner. It started out as a safety thing, I just feel safer fully hearing what’s going on around me.

I do my best thinking on my runs. I think about work issues, plan vacations, ponder politics and my own existence, social issues and race relations, oh look a cute bunny, my parents health, etc...

Music on Spotify - you can make your own playlist or search for one by songs/genres/decades that you like

There are playlists on Spotify that coordinate with the pace you want to run and I’ve been listening to those. I’m terrible with pacing myself and have always run at the pace my music is, which means that with my own playlist I’m dragging for slow songs and sprinting to fast ones.

usually podcasts. Sometimes audiobooks or music.

I have a few playlists of music, but lately I’ve been thinking more about using that time to listen to audiobooks or podcasts. Years ago, I could run with just my thoughts but I find I need the music now to get my butt going.

My playlist is a very eclectic mix of German Schlager music, German pop, 80s, and North American pop hits.

Lately Vampire Weekend.

I use one headphone for the same reason, but I also run in a very quiet area with sidewalks, etc.

I have Amazon music. I make my own playlists but also sometimes listen to their top pop or 90s stations if i get tired of my own selections.

I’m about to add Ritmo by Black Eyed Peas & Jason Derulo - savage love to my playlist. Maybe Eminem Godzilla too.

Dp - just be careful with the one ear approach. I have hearing loss in the ear I used to listen to my music.

Good point. I do have Apple Watch and it tells you about your volume levels, but I’ll definitely think about that, thank you for the reminder!
