Why do you buy processed foods for your kids?

Just curious? It takes no time to make homemade foods. Even yogurt can be easily made for less and it's healthier and you can control the quality of ingredients. I don't understand why anyone would buy a frozen waffle or granola bar.

Shut up.

Sincerely, mom who makes her kids food.

I don’t buy granola bars, but I do buy Greek yogurt, frozen wheat waffles and euro style frozen pancakes. And sausage. And bread. And tortillas. I buy no or low sugar, no preservative versions of these. I just don’t see why not. 3 year old gets a couple mini pancakes or a waffle topped with homemade no sugar chia jam and no sugar/palm oil nut butter or 100% maple syrup and a side of omelette or eggs for protein.

I try to focus on balance and health as well as variety. There isn’t a prize for absolutely homemade everything. I’m not going to grind my own flour and use it to bake my own bread. And this is coming from someone who soaks and dehydrates coarse oats before cooking them!

Haha. I used to be like the OP when I had only one 8-month-old.

Because I’m trashy and I hate my children.

This is not true at all. We make our own yogurt, and applesauce, and icecream. Cook from scratch most of the time, especially pancakes and waffles, etc. But it takes time, it takes skill to do well, and it takes planning for ingredients. Processed food is easier, it's convenient, and lots of healthy ones can be purchased as well. I mean, we buy plain yogurt in a tub a lot of the time, and it's no healthier than what we've made at home (also, how are you culturing your yogurt without a store bought starter?) Why do you care what others do or how they choose to spend their time if they even have free time?

I don’t think you understand what the word “time” means.

Because I hate my kid and want her to become a obese diabetic.

I really hate these posts claiming to be "curious" as a front for lecturing others in the worst mommy war ever.

Signed,
Mom who makes yogurt weekly, bakes bread, grows a vegetable garden ... and still has a box of Quaker Chewy Granola Bars in the cupboard. Sometimes you just need something shelf-stable and convenient.

We make our own waffles and I'm pretty sure they're not healthier

Where do you draw the line, OP? Is the milk for your homemade yogurt from your cow, or do you get it pasteurized from the store? Do you grind your own flour? But processed sugar, or just never bake anything so very unhealthy as to have sugar?

Agree, not true. It takes me 1 hour to make, cook, and clean up after waffles or pancakes. It also takes quite some time to make applesauce, potatoes, etc. I don't always have the time and I think many times my child would prefer I spend time playing with them or reading to them instead of spending 3 hours cooking each day. OP, I can't wait to see what topics you come up with on here as your kids get older.

This is bullshit. I can make Kraft mac & cheese in 20 minutes and do that while doing two other things. I don't have to hand make pasta, press cashews to create milk or go milk a cow, don't have to cut or grate any cheese or bake it in the oven. I can buy one box for less than $1 plus a quarter cup of milk.

Because I have an 18 month old and 2 month old and no time to "make my own yogurt" (seriously wtf)

Also, because I like Oreos and am not going to hide them from my children.
