BASIS Incoming 5th Grade

Wondering if we have a chance. We are in the high teens. Has anyone been “called” off the waitlist recently? If so, what was your original number (appx)? If not, are you holding out hope?

From the school’s updated directory I see there are only 101 5th graders currently enrolled, which is a small class-size than prior years. This bodes well for you. Except...

...Overall school enrollment for all grades is currently 651. So perhaps the school needs a smaller 5th grade class to compensate for better retention in upper grades.

Good luck. What was your starting WL number? (Curious how far the WL has moved.)

Thanks for the info. We were in the low 100s.

We just got an offer. We were in the 50s or 60s.

Our child was initially in the high 60s and got an offer a week ago. Good luck!

We were in the mid 70s and got an offer a week ago. We rejected it.

I believe this is correct- I think they are keeping 5th small for both overall school numbers and because of DL, etc.

Are folks worried about their building having enough space and ventilation to be safe?

They had a town hall monday. They haven't rolled out their plan yet, but one thing they did touch on was that students would not be in the halls at the same time. They have definitely been working on it all summer.

Oh right, more than 600 kids crammed into an office building and "students won't be in the halls at the same time." Not buying it. Cave-like building, top down franchise, who bloody knows what they'll do in response to Covid.

Glad we passed on our spot, for VA.

Someone told me a few months ago that they are planning to have a normal sized class, which implies 135 seats, and I'm wondering if that has changed. Our child has a few friends still on the waitlist who are eager to get in.

They do have a hard limit on total number given building size. Perhaps more reenrolled in a higher year than expected, so they had to reduce 5th grade numbers? I see 9th grade has around 75 kids returning - which seems higher than usual to me.
