'21-22' DMV LACROSSE OUTLOOK

Quality of GZ commits is good——2 UNC, 2 Gtown, 2 Army, 1 Rutgers, 1 Penn among others. UNC finished last season #1 on final season rankings and lost by a goal to eventual winner UVA in semis; GTown is a top 6 team going into this season, Rutgers is a top ten team this season and last, and Army and Penn are top 20 teams coming into the season. GZ will be fine this season and probably surprise a lot of people who thought last season was a trend. I also think that GZ has potentially 2 POYs —UNC attack and Rutgers LSM.

I think this GZ Dad or Alum might have had a bit too much to drink at the Avenue during lunch.

You do realize when college coaches recruit kids, especially HS sophomores and juniors, they calculate at least 33% of the kids they make offers to won't even pan out at the next level.

GZ strength this year will be the defensive side of the field, unfortunately, they will struggle to score goals against top teams. Scoring 20 goals against BI and O'Connell wont help you beat SJC, GP, Landon or even Bullis.

Those same “quality commits” looked like a Rec league team last year. Résumés don’t matter much when the product on the field is so poor.

Well, I guess I would rather take the opinions of the people whose jobs depend on recruiting the best players.

Other intangible is that there are at least 2-3 likely impact freshman on the GZ squad that should help plant the seeds for the future of GZ lax too.

Yeah - you trotted that out before. That doesn’t change how utterly terribly this team played last year.

Here is the logic, as I understand it
- GZ got their doors blown off and were repeatedly embarrassed in 2021 - fairly objectively and not really an opinion
- off-season sees not much in way of notable additions to team
- “But they have some D1 recruits! You think you’re smarter than D1 coaches?”
- we are supposed to have high expectations for GZ in 2022?

New year/new team/new head coach. We are all slightly deranged for spending any time at all trying to forecast the season and I am simply stating an opinion. Let’s see how the season unfolds but I guarantee that GZ’s season will be a big improvement over last year. Please bring this post up in mid May if I am wrong. And if I am right, I certainly don’t expect you resurrect this thread.

Gonzaga will be either second or third. A close game will determine this. Really not much will change.

2020 Gonzaga lacrosse grad here- I still know a lot of kids on the Gonzaga team. Let me start off my saying that they had a lot of issues last season and obviously sucked. They know that. The current team reminds each other everyday how much they sucked last year and how embarrassing it was. All they want right now is to earn back their respect and they know the only way to do that is by winning. The returners from last season have been lifting and running full time since August 27. Everyone single one of the returns knows that they don’t have the respect or reputation as a top “dawg" in the dmv anymore. They were humbled and embarrassed. They know Casey is gone and that almost everyone is counting them. I may be a washed up lax bro in my second year of college, but I know one thing for sure, they are going to be dangerous this upcoming season. All of the embarrassment that came with last season has been building up. All they want is to starting playing and get that chance to earn their respect back. I’m not saying they will beat sjc, prep, or even Landon ,but if there is one thing for sure, it is that they will give every game every ounce of energy they have left in their body until the clock hits zero.

Also a note to all the people on this page. 99% of the people on this page really have know clue what their talking about when it comes to dmv hs lacrosse. It doesn’t matter if they are the parent of kid on one of the teams. This is the players game. I guarantee if any dmv hs lacrosse player found this page they would simply just laugh at it. At the end of the day this is a PLAYERS game not a parents game. This game is in the hands of these kids and not one parent on this form truly knows everything. Kids play this game because they love it and all of this nonsense of parents arguing about which team is better and who is worse on this page is truly a joke. This season will be determined by the players not my a bunch of parents on an Anonymous form. Simply as that.
