Getting into St. Albans

Admission to private schools is not based solely on intellect. Admission to Blair magnet and TJ is not based soley on legacy, sibship, socioeconomic status and money.

Forty percent of each class is are national merit finalists and semifinalists, significantly more AP scholars with highest honors, significantly more honors in national and international competitions in math and sciences, significantly more Intel and Sieman awardees, year in and year out, over the last decade and a half.

I do not claim that school is all about academics and intellectual power. Of course, there are sports, arts, music and rubbing shoulders with rich and famous. All schools, public and private, offer these side shows.

I'm not sure what the point of your post is? Why would anyone in the Private/Independent School forum and specifically the "Getting into St. Albans" thread care about TJ and Blair? Did you post in the wrong place?

Not at all. Just a response to the post about obligations of private schools (implied --in contradiction--is the difference from the obligations of public education). With more thought you'll realize this was the right board to post the response.

On another thread a couple of weeks ago. And in the message at the top of the forum.

Not sure I understand the context here? Some Big 3 upset with ideas that going against the grain of their worldview? Please fill in the details since it appears you're the historical expert here.

Okay. I guess I just don't understand your interest in this thread if your children attend TJ or Blair or if you think those are better options for your family. Are you attempting to steer people away from St. Albans? Are you here to educate or inform us of something that you think we are missing? I still have no interest in TJ or Blair, only St. Albans -- for reasons that have nothing to do with National Merit or Intel or Ivy placement or other people's measures of what makes a student successful. But if you have specific things to share from your or your child's first hand knowledge of St. Albans from having attended or been an administrator or faculty member that will help inform my decision should my child be admitted, please do share.

Since I have no interest in TJ, STA or Blair magnet you clearly are on a fishing expedition. Someone should teach you how to fish.

Does anyone know when most of the public school children apply? Is it for 4th, 6th, or 7th, generally? I would think most MOCO kids apply either in 4th or 6th, since middle school (and hence a school change) begins in 6th. Also, does anyone know how many Beauvoir boys are expected to enroll in next year's C Form?

Are you smoking crack? Are you not poster 19:34? Why are you posting on the Getting into St. Albans thread if you aren't interested in STA? Why did you post about TJ and Blair if you aren't interested in either of those schools?

PP, STA parent here who appreciates your input. Keep it coming.

The families who have been accepted have been notified, but at the same time instructed not to discuss this with others. I think because, quel horreur, not everyone was accepted outright, and that group will have to wait with the masses in mid-March to see if they were able to eke in over the finish line and gain entry through those stone arches. Methinks a lot of "who do you know" type phone calls are happening right about now.

Usually about 24-28 Beauvoir boys enroll. Roughly about 45 in C form. Several boys from our C form class were from out of the tri-state area, some faculty sons, some sibs from public/private/magnet schools in the area.

Never tried crack. What's it like? How does it compare to your Prozac?

No booster here.

For whatever it's worth, you don't strike me as a typical parent of a STA boy.

In fourth grade approximately 10-16 of the 40-45 students (varies from year to year) are non-Beauvoir - - some public, some private.

Fifth and sixth grade they only accept a few - -5 or6. I would try not to apply for these years because your odds are lower.

Seventh they admit 18-20.
Don't know the mix between public and private applicants.
