Why start at 1 am so you're finishing at like3 am as people's alarms are going off at 6 to maybe get to work - or not?

Sorry - meant MONDAY at 1 am.

Because that’s the latest time he could push it to. If they pass a CR (no hope for an actual budget), everyone reports to work Monday morning; crisis averted until it all happens again in 3 or 4 weeks.

Vote is scheduled at 1 am tomorrow (i.e. in 24 hours) UNLESS Dems agree to move it earlier. Dems refusing so far. Shocker - really. I mean something that's isn't pro illegal isn't going to be more palatable to them at 8 pm than at 1 am.

Many of these Reps are elderly. They cannot pull an all nighter

That was my first thought - so why even start a vote 4 hrs after everyone’s bedtime??

Meanwhile Nancy Pelosi hosted a dinner last night for all the Dems in the House at a fancy restaurant to celebrate their shutting down of the Govt. Wonder if the tax payers picked up the check for the 200 plus?

Hey turd, one dinner vs. all of the millions Trump pays to himself on travel? STFU.

why would they hold up a spending bill for illegal aliens?

espeically when they
- would NOT mandate e-verify
- whould NOTend chain migration
- mandated the continuation of the Diversity lottery

Sounds like to me Senator Graham disagrees with the s-called fake news headlines. An emotional Senator Graham on the shutdown and DACA: "We look like we care more about the party flag than the American flag," "how could you take an 80% issue and screw it up?"

Nope the only dem who had been out front on this is Schumer and he's grossly miscalculated. If the rumors are accurate then it didn't take him long to cave on the Wall. Bluffing Trump is a huge mistake and conceding on a wall even in theory was idiotic on Schumers part. All trump has to do now is wait-he will get a cr and he will get a wall and if daca is included in the cr it will be on trumps terms. Schumer will agree to almost anything now to save face as long as he can try to spin it as a dem "win.". But he will cave hard on the substance and trump wins again.

Uh, if he conceded some money for the wall and Trump and McConnell still rejected the proposal, then how is that Schumer's fault? It demonstrates how bad faith the GOP is as a negotiation partner.

I am old enough to remember when Schumer was the one who WROTE the e-verify bill that the GOP has been rejecting for years.

Why is that?

Print media is scrupulously avoiding the word "filibuster." Apparently it would confuse us? Better to reserve that word for when it's Repubs filibustering to make them seem retrograde and obstructionist?

Maybe because there isn't a filibuster?

I don’t use chip, but I have a child with special needs and I know what that means for healthcare costs and family security.

I am upset that Schumer prioritises undocumented over locking in the six year chip extension.

The Republicans could put a standalone CHIP bill on the floor at any time and it would pass with bipartisan support. You should be upset that the Republicans are using poor children as hostages.

I thought Trump was the greatest negotiator in the history of the world. When is he going to provide our country with this amazing talent? It’s on the stable genius.

What are their kids?

You know the answer. Their kids are U.S. citizens, so not only are we educating the 2nd generation of kids - thanks to their illegal grandparents - they are eligible for food stamps and Medicaid now, and will ultimately be entitled to subsidized housing - and to vote. So the next generation gets full benefits. I say the DACA "kids" themselves can get legal residence, but that's enough. We've paid enough for the law-breaking of their parents.

Standalone chip- I agree.

How about a stand-alone budget? Schumer filibustering that one.

Thee bills that would pass are standalone DACA, Standalone CHIP and standalone budget. The dems don't trust the GIP to bring the first two to the floor (both could have been done any time over the past 4 months, but McConnell refused) so are simply asking for these popular bills to be brought together.

Why is McConnell refusing?

He has already betrayed Sen Collins on healthcare. He is proving to not be a reliable partner in this and it is being exposed, bigly.
