It's these little things, isn't it, that really sell the fact that he's compromised. That list of questions someone posted earlier in the thread is also awfully damning.

I missed that, this thread has gotten so EUGE, could you paste or quote? thanks!

He obviously believes the Russians (though the Russians are known to use propaganda and lies way more than the US media) more than he does the US IC. Reagan is turning over in his grave and giving Trump the finger.

But WHERE does he get his Russian propaganda when? On RT in his office? Subscribes to Pravda? Reads Yandex News in the original?

He calls Putin and chats.

More probably, people on his team tell him. The reason the US IC isn't incredibly alarmed is that there is evidence to suggest that Trump's team is communicating heavily with Russia, but not Trump himself. So far, he just seems clueless, not actively working with Russia.

Or they're making absolutely 100% positively certain their ducks are in a row before they drop the hammer on whoever is guilty in that crew, be that only one or two or a whole bunch of them. There were whispers all campaign long that Trump was working with Russia but it's just now we average people are finding out about an extent of what was known, the requested FISA warrants, etc. I wonder what else is being done currently...

The only person in the White House who doesn't have to have security clearance is the POTUS. I bet when Dems are back in power this will change and it should. Every person in Why should undergo rigorous security clearance.

Dropping off the grid renders Steele much more vulnerable to an actual threat to his safety from the Russians. Because he's gone already.

It's like if you think someone is following you to do you harm, you don't go into a dark deserted alley, you try to find some place with lots of light and lots of people.

So, no, no legitimate intelligence operate or ex operative practicing "tradecraft" would choose this moment to disappear if his concern was his personal safety. He would do the opposite: be as public and noticeable as possible. He would go on the news media shows and very publicly give interviews stating that he fears for his safety and if anything happens to him, Putin was the one who ordered the hit. Even if it looks like an accident (brakes failed or something).

On the other hand, financial scammers and con artists are the types who pull these kind of disappearing acts, and they do it all the time.

Steele was very useful to the intelligence agencies and media outlets who are now claiming he was a "reliable source" because he provided them all with easy plausible deniability. Steele could just sit down at his word processor and make up any old shit. If he had a bit of a conscience he might call one of his old cronies back in Russia and say "Hey man I need a source for some shit I am going to make up for a client. So I need you to make up some thing lurid about Trump. When I get paid I will give you 10%."

Or maybe Steele didn't even do that with this Trump nonsense. Maybe he just completely made the whole thing up. Wouldn't have been a problem except Trump got elected and somehow the thing got leaked to the point where it blew up on Steele. He can't back up anything, he knows how litigious Trump is, and he needs to hide to avoid the process servers that he knows are coming his way.

Also he probably committed any number of federal crimes in fabricating this stuff--mail fraud, wire fraud, and I'm sure there's a few other felonies in there too.

So that's why he vanished. Just like every other scammer who's about to be exposed as a scammer.

This is the highest quality comment on this thread in quite a few pages. High quality isn't the same as correct, but I think all the armchair quarterbacks should read and re-read this a few times, to understand that these ideas are among the better informed and better thought out here. None of this is a sure thing, but definitely keep the above in mind.

A few further thoughts. Troublesome U.S. politicos show up dead in things like small plane crashes in remote areas, not getting shot on Capitol Hill. One of 20th C America's most reviled men, a man complicit in the deaths of many thousands, for decades walked the streets of downtown DC daily, his distinctive gait visible from at least a block away! He was always doing the opposite of hiding, he was surrounding himself with witnesses and potential collateral damage.

Was it Keyser Soze?

No, not that nonsense, it was the party line at DCUM. Everything else is outside the realm of possibility. All those suggesting otherwise are simply malign Trumpkins.

I'm sure that you are better informed about such matter than a former MI6 agent. But, one of the cases that Steele investigated was the assassination of Alexander Litvinenko. Litvinenko was "hiding in plain sight" and attempts to poison him were made in public bars and restaurants. It is likely that the successful poisoning occurred in a public place. So, one might say that Steele's experience belies your claims.

This is a best a guessing game of "likely", "probably", "plausible" and nothing at all in the "always" and "never" category.

Absent a lot of knowledge of when people have and haven't been offed, this is at best about dueling intuitions.

Remember when Trump refused to admit that Obama was indeed born in the US, or that the Russians were the ones resonsible for the hacking?

Deny, deny, deny. Then... oops!

I bet if someone had said there was a tape about him making sport of sexually assaulting women, he'd have denied that until the pigs could fly.

There would be no way to do this. The constitution is the authoritative source of a President's powers. There would be no way of limiting his access to intelligence without violating Article II.

Those tweets look very sketchy, many people are saying this. Many many people.

Madoff was the only financial criminal ever. You should definitely stop reading this nonsense of financial criminals hiding! What would they do? Go to a country with no extradition treaty with the U.S.? Pshaw!

If Steele was lying, he has no reason to throw away his entire life. He doesn't owe a billion dollars and face life in prison. At most he will get sued for the return of some consulting fees. There's no jail in his future. Come on!

If he lied and feared Putin, he could end the threat from by going public and saying he lied. Problem solved.

The only reason he would run is if he is really holding on to the truth.

The only thing that frightens me more than Trump in the WH is Congress giving IC the ability to nullify an election by denying a POTUS access to information.

He's not afraid of Putin; he's afraid of crazy Americans and their "second amendment solutions." Surprised the PEOTUS hasn't suggested this yet, actually.
