Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS)
+1 Not entirely true. He moved her to a lower grade where she could do more damage to younger children. |
+1 it’s one of the reasons why a few parents pulled their kids from AAP. |
Late in 2023, my child told me that their class had been evacuated. I asked more about the incident and was told that this is actually the third time since school started (2 months at that point). Each time was due to the violent outbursts of one student (throwing chairs, knocking over desks, screaming, knocking things over...). I asked about the student involved and was told that this student also tried to stab another one with a pencil. Concerned, I emailed Amos and he responded that the while the classroom had been evacuated multiple times, there was no attempting stabbing. The wording of the email ("if the teacher knows about it, i'm sure she dealt with it appropriately") gave me the impression that he had not spoken with the teacher prior to responding. Unsatisfied, I spoke with the teacher a few days later at a parent teacher conference. When I repeatedly asked her about the attempt to stab another student, her eventual response was "we stopped it before anything happened". I think, and hopefully i'm not alone here, attempting to stab another student is a serious allegation, and one that should not be dismissed without some rudimentary investigation. I would have liked to have heard about the classroom being evacuated, so that I would be prepared to talk to my child about it, but did not receive any communications. I do feel like Amos either lied to me about the potential stabbing, or just failed to do any due diligence, either way its bad. I went to event tonight with the principal. One of the parents asked about the allegations in the email, in particular about the bomb threat and whether the police were called. Amos admitted that there was a bomb threat, but it was a joke between friends. When asked about the police being called he responded that they were... Another parent asked what she's supposed to tell her 2nd grader, who thinks the police only show up for gangs and drug dealers... His response was to tell the child the police like to stop by school and visit. When asked why there was no communication sent home, he was elusive and danced around the question until the conversation moved on. I have heard about this email going around... Amos' failure to be transparent, and denying the incidents mentioned above occurred (lying) mirrors my own experience with him. When I reach out to my child's principal to discuss an incident that I think is serious, I do not want to be lied to. After my own experience in 2023 and hearing that Amos initially lied about the bomb threat and police presence, only to admit tonight the truth, I don't trust him to be truthful in our communications. |

NP. See the above poster made a far more convincing argument in favor of their position, by adding personal antecedents and experiences. I’m now far more likely to support Amos’ ouster than the side that cried “muh racism” “black man”, without anyone having directed a single racial charge beforehand.

This is so blown out of proportion. This literally happens every year at every school in Fairfax. Wait til your kid gets to middle or high school. You get no communication. Again, you can feel it’s a failure of communication, but you are outright labeling him a liar. Would you call the previous administration that if I laid out similar, multiple incidents that occurred on their watch? My DC class also had multiple violent outbursts in prior years were never reported. Do you know how many times schools have such incidents. There are outright fights in MS and HS and nobody is trying to get those principals fired for not reporting every incident. |
Again different standards. |
This. |
I’m sorry but this is completely overblown. When Jon was in charge, we also had a class that was evacuated. We were never given information or emailed each time it happened. Should we have tried to overthrow Jon then about that? |
This is an interesting take, because I heard from someone who was at the meeting who did not feel that way at all. She said Amos said that the incidents did not meet the criteria for alerting the community. |

She said Amos said that the incidents did not meet the criteria for alerting the community. Exactly! Literally does not meet the FCPS criteria. Can’t trust these parents to even report the truth. This person wrote a bunch of nothing just to call him a liar again when he was clear in the meeting about certain incidents not meeting the threshold. Nice try. |
Amos explained that it was actually a parent that called the police. It was probably you, seeing as you have a vendetta against him. I’m sorry your child has a bad class this year - we’ve all been there. There were classes that needed evacuation under Jon with even worse behavior than an attempted pencil stabbing. My guess is you probably asked to have your child moved earlier in the year and was told no. This feels like sour grapes to me. |
Tell me you're a bigot without telling me you're a bigot. |

My kid's teacher at Navy is amazing and I have never had any issue. This blog seems to be a bunch of whining entitled cry babies that can't solve issues by themselves and talk to their kids teacher like an adult face to face. Instead run to the internet to absolutely bash them anonymously online. You know the internet is permanent right? Any teacher going forward coming to this school will read this and have a pretty tainted picture of what the parents are like here.
Lastly, no one goes to your job and tells you how to feel about your boss. I am sure all of us have had a boss that was internally toxic to employees but the second a client(aka parent) is around they are an angel. You know nothing about what these teachers relationship is with him, so throwing claims of racism is so low and pathetic. |
Tell me you’re a Navy teacher pretending to be a parent without telling me you’re a Navy teacher. |
