| Idle thought: How come basketball/lacrosse varsity players have become so rare (or so it seems)? Lots of football/lacrosse and hockey/lacrosse combos but not as many hoops players. |
Football and lacrosse a lot of similar in terms of build and skills needed. Hockey similar. Basketball isn’t completely dissimilar but takes a little bit different skill set and obviously height is a barrier for a lot of players. |
Basketball season runs so late. There are still conferences still in playoffs. |
Depends on the make up of the student body but lacrosse is dominated by white players and basketball is a dominated by black players. |
Sadly, this is true. The private schools use basketball as a way to increase diversity. It’s shocking how many of the privates can be 35% non-caucasian, but most of the privates run over 70% aa for basketball. If your kid is a good basketball player and is Caucasian, do not send them to a private school. There is a built in bias bc of the coaching staffs and the scholarship players must play. |
Same with Football. Not gonna find too many white players on the field at DeMatha - GC - St. John’s - Carroll - McNamara and so on. |
|
Lacrosse is a very affluent sport, just like ice hockey. There is a reason why both of these sports lack much diversity at all.
You don't see many lower-middle-class white families playing the sport either. |
These should be good scrimmages. |
You could have white players on scholarship. |
Prep v PVI Sat. |
You could and maybe there are a few in the region, but the schools seek out black athletes for diversity numbers. Like the pp wrote, the scholarship/tuition reduced athlete will always get preferential treatment when it comes to playing time. |

You could and maybe there are a few in the region, but the schools seek out black athletes for diversity numbers. Like the pp wrote, the scholarship/tuition reduced athlete will always get preferential treatment when it comes to playing time. This is not a universal truth. Plenty would say the rich white kids with pushy parents get preferential treatment when it comes to playing time. |
This is not a universal truth. Plenty would say the rich white kids with pushy parents get preferential treatment when it comes to playing time. Having black athletes isn’t all about diversity. Reality check. They are better at basketball and football at certain positions. |
This is not a universal truth. Plenty would say the rich white kids with pushy parents get preferential treatment when it comes to playing time. Pushy white parent wouldn’t have success if the black player is just better. No coach wants to lose. |
