I think it depends of the number of kids that try out. A roster of greater than 35 does not really work well at the HS level.

Gonzaga has cut Jrs and above for years. SJC started cutting kids in past few seasons.

Word was that they have to as they have a lot of numbers and can only carry a few on JV I think 25ish?

If you don’t make varsity you make JV then when you become a junior you get moved up to varsity.

But they do cut a ton of juniors who played JV as sophomores. No guarantee you make varsity there. So there is a real tryout. Incumbent varsity players bring guaranteed spots is different.

The first weekend of spring competition is approaching and I suspect there are a few scrimmages / joint practices lined up for this weekend.

I know Landon and McDonogh have a joint practice/scrimmage this weekend. Looks like Saint Mary's, SJC, and St Albans are having a tri-scrimmage as well.
