Not so fast! Bowser left it to individual schools/school systems. And Ferebee says, no thanks. Masks will stay on while he consults with the union. Of course.

The lawsuit is what drove them to lift the mandate. Thank private school parents.

For a town w a million political people you all know nothing about advocacy or how things work.

Posting this from another thread about mask mandates:

If you want DCPS not to be the very last place in the nation masking children in schools, consider calling Chancellor Ferebee's office today to urge him to make DCPS mask optional. CDC, DCHealth, and even the WTU now support mask choice. He needs to hear from parents who support this.

Ferebee's number is:
(202) 442-5885

In addition to Ferebee, keep making sure Bowser hears your voices as well. She controls Ferebee

My MCPS kids were completely flat when I told them they didn't have to wear masks today. They prefer not to wear them, but it's just not the big deal all you psycho parents make it out to be. I've worked daily with children with special needs throughout the pandemic and masks are just not a big deal. At all. Tell yourselves what you want, but you are projecting your "stuff' onto your kids.

Thank you, normal poster. It is a piece of cloth. Calm down.

No. You are justifying the fact that you did nothing to help kids and indeed went along with the madness. I know it made life a lot easier for you.

Yeah this person has me ROLLING today. What a rube. Clearly no sense of politics or how things actually work.

Evidence A of psycho parents

I was in two DC schools all day yesterday and Monday. 100% mast compliance, signs everywhere encouraging mask usage - even art projects posted integrating decorated masks. Kids are used to it and don't care.

They may be used to it but many kids door care. You try l learning phonics without seeing the shape your mouth is supposed to make or learning how to interact with other people without seeing their expression. Let’s not forget the kids with speech disorders who can be hard to understand even without a Mack

So you extrapolate from your kids to everybody else's? Strange move. As for the kids you work with, how do you know how they really feel? I know my kids don't complain about masks, but I also know that they and their classmates *celebrated* on the playground when they came off outside last week. But nice try insulting the parents who actually helped make the outdoor change happen. I thank them for their advocacy instead.

The drama between the Bowser, Ferebee, and WTU is worse than high school teenagers. Someone needs to step up and be the adult and make the decision to remove mask. Less posturing and more leadership is what's desperately needed.

Remember the quote "It's for the kids"? It's not about who's up for reelection or who wants more control, just align with the CDC and DC Health. They already made the decision for you.

NP. Compliance doesn't equal not caring. Integrating lived experience into art projects doesn't mean the experience is a positive one. Ever heard of art therapy?

But whatever you need to tell yourself to feel better about how we have treated kids during this pandemic.

“The kids don’t care” is the worst justification for an intervention with a marginal benefit. My kids don’t complain, they do what they’re told. But it’s total gaslighting to think anyone is cool with wearing a mask 8+ hours a day with the constant threat of getting yelled at if it drops under their nose.

The drama and histrionics are just so over the top. Who is getting yelled at?

Ferebee has no say in this. Bowser will decide, just as she decided about schools reopening. Calling his office is useless.
