I am fine with letting the unvaccinated MAGAs die off, but I'm vaccinated and will be maskless anywhere it's allowed. |
I'm at this point as well. The only thing that worries me is that if it spreads too quickly, there may not be hospital capacity for emergencies. Rules related to masking and such should ONLY be correlated to hospital capacity IMO. I don't think we should worry about new case numbers but rather only ensure people having emergencies are not sent away due to capacity issues. If that may happen then we need to take measures to reduce the spread. Otherwise, let it spread and at least it will burn itself out faster (until the next variant). |
A friend of mine in DC sent her kid to sleep away camp on a bus. It was 3-4 hour ride and all the windows open. Ten kids got Covid. Idk if any hospitalized abd I wouldn’t panic, but I don’t want my kids getting it. We know a long hauler kid. |
Ha, yes, not sure MoCo even needs a "mandate" to stay fully masked. Certainly won't be a place to appreciate random unmasked tourists just "living life." Go elsewhere PP. |
Who cares? Vaccination works better than a cotton cloth over the face. They need to get vaccinated and, yes, they are somewhat responsible for the surge. |
I was seeing fewer masked people in stores then yesterday everyone (100%) was masked again. I assume because of the new CDC guidance. Masking in MoCo is not yet required and probably shouldn't be given the huge vaccination numbers. MoCo is probably at heard immunity already and if it isn't, it will be there in a month when 90% of 12+ year olds are fully vaxed. We may have outbreaks in elementary schools. These numbers are among the highest vaccination rates in the country. https://covid.cdc.gov/covid-data-tracker/#county-view People Vaccinated-----------------------------At Least One Dose---Fully Vaccinated % of Total Population-----------------------------77.6%----------------- 70.7% % of Population ≥ 12 Years of Age-------------91.4%------------------83.3% % of Population ≥ 18 Years of Age-------------92.3%----------------- 84.6% % of Population ≥ 65 Years of Age--------------99%-------------------93.4% |
How about the unvaccinated minority populations? |
https://dcist.com/story/21/07/07/dc-region-coronavirus-metrics-remain-low/ In D.C., vaccinations in predominantly Black wards 7 and 8 still lag behind whiter, wealthier wards in the city — as has been the case since the early days of the vaccine rollout. According to a Washington City Paper report in late June, this trend is playing out in the teen vaccination rollout as well. In late May, the Washington Post reported that eight in 10 new COVID-19 cases in D.C. were Black residents – revealing the persistent racial gaps in who is getting vaccinated and who is continuing to get sick with the virus, as the city lifts mask mandates and restrictions on business operations. |
Shouldn't the rules regarding masking be related to how spreadable the disease is rather than the hospitalization rates? I mean, with delta, it's much more easily spread, regardless of your vaccinated status. Hence, a greater need to wear a mask. Unless you're someone who is profiting from more sickness, this seems like common sense. |
JFC, DC was bringing vaccination trailers down into SE. There is no access problem. |
I was asking if the PP was ok with letting them die off too. I know it's socially acceptable to lightly cheer for the death of Trump supporters, but is it ok to lightly cheer for the death of minorities who likely didn't vote for Trump? |
No it shouldn't be based on how spreadable the virus is. A lot of viruses are highly contagious but are mild. If a huge part of the population is vaccinated then we shouldn't be concerned about how contagious the virus is because most people won't catch it or will get a mild case with few or no symptoms. We should only be concerned about hospital capacity. |
Darwin doesn't care about your skin color. I don't see people cheering Trump supporters catching the virus. I see them saying they don't care about the vaccine-refusers catching the disease. And why should they? They made their "personal choice" about "muh freedumbs". |
Vaccines have been widely available for a few months now. If people haven't been vaccinated in the US by now, it's by choice. Especially if they haven't had 1 shot. |
This whole thing screams political correctness in the worst kind of way. We literally have a specific population that won't get vaccinated at the same rates as everyone else and we can't even talk about it because it's black people. In the South where it's all Trump supporting white people that refuse to believe the science, we aren't afraid to talk about that. Here in the DC area though, we just can't talk about what's happening. This isn't going to solve anything. |
