For the under 40 yr olds making 100-300k what do you do?

37, work for myself in what I’ll call advisory and strategy. About $120K part time. On spouse’s health insurance

Before this I was a nonprofit cog. Earned $130K full time.

Spouse: 38, educator, $75K

115k tenured professor. by the hour (summers and breaks) probably like 300k on a normal work year. It works for me.

What subject and what kind of summer jobs? DH is a tenured professor making 130k for the nine month contract, but somehow he makes only 25-30k over the summer by some gigs.... would you share some tips to increase outside income?

No, it’s extremely rare for a new CS graduate to start at 100k. Maybe the top 2-4%.


Here are the companies offering more than $100k for a newly CS graduate from uva: yelp, appian, capital one, disney, microsoft, amazon, google, etc...both my kids have such offers and said their friends had similar offers last/this year.

Untenured prof; 150K 9-month; ~30-50k summer depending on grant awards. Will start consulting IF I make tenure. Rates ~300-500/hr in my industry for not-too-famous people.
