How do you think the fall will be in fcps?

I don’t think they will start working on it until July. Not sure they will commit to 5 days then. Definitely not enough time to make other plans.

The hang up is going to be the DL part and not doing a central DL system.

No idea but July seems reasonable. And variants withstanding, the numbers and community spread should be very low. The FCPS health dashboard today finally had percent positivity in the orange. First time I’ve seen that in months and months.

We know by now that what is allowed and logical will not happen easily.

Whatever they come up with will be hours of discussion between brabrand and school board. The Teacher associations will insist they don’t feel safe teaching to full capacity and despite vaccines, teachers will still apply for ADA. This will never be simple.

And we will see the schools that have been successful this year continue on or increase their days and we will be behind once again.

if we could afford private we would sign up for next year.

I don't think this is the battle that most teachers will fight. Going back full time is going to be leagues easier on them than trying to balance concurrent/DL. Teachers will have been vaccinated for 6+ months, most adults for at least a couple months, and cases will be a trickle of what they are now. Safety won't be the primary issue. How to accommodate the holdout parents will. On that, teachers were resistant to RTS last fall. They're going to be resistant to concurrent this upcoming fall. You do the math.

I think public will be fully focused on catching kids up and social/emotional learning. If your child has been on task and learning this year, he or she will just have to simmer next year while the other children catch-up.

We don’t have the money for private, but would do it if we could.

Thanks. It’s not an easy decision in terms of paying, uprooting the kids, and having a new school situation but I guess we didn’t have great choices this year or last year and we all have to try to make the best of it. Good luck - I hope public works ok for you.

Northam 2pm press conference indicated that VA will ignore the CDC guidance, including high school sports.

Homeschooled my DD this year for 1st grade. Despite the considerable sacrifices made, she's thriving. I'm not going to put her into a class next year and have her just simmer. Will likely keep homeschooling into the future.

Sports are already going on. I figured the most dangerous ones are over. Fall sports are mostly outside and the kids are wearing masks.

The limit on spectators has been raised to 250. Covid is over in VA.

That might be good for kids to get to watch football games. Seniors especially.

And glad we are catching up. Covids been over for my out of state family for months.

Kidding!!!!

Seems reasonable, since all the teachers and school employees are vaccinated.

This is just not feasible for many, dare I say most, people, particularly as kids get older
