But right now we are looking at 60%+ community immunity at that time, with more and more getting vaccinated each day, which includes ALL of the highest risk population at that point and infection numbers that are the same if not lower than August 2020, so likely about 50 or so per day.

Like I said, barring a radical shift in the mortality rates, etc on this virus, what is the logic for not being in 5 days per week? Who is being protected by that at that point? I don't get it.

I have a feeling teachers will want masks.

DP. Masks are fine with me. Less than 5 days a week is not.

That’s fine I’m a parent and I want masks until herd immunity. Which for secondary schools probably comes about this time next year, when those kids are vaxxed. Kids may be less likely to get seriously ill. But, we don’t know the long term effects. And if kids start going down, schools shut.

noone knows long term effects of the vaccine, either. It's not fair to force it on kids when it's perfectly safe to be in school without it.

No one is going to force an EUA vaccine on anyone. But once it’s available and gets whose parents want them to get it can, it’s time for anti-vaxxers to decide if they want to risk sending their kid in unvaxxed and having them alone pulled out to quarantine or stay virtual. 90% of people in this area want the vaccine, so school will be safe. Kids don’t give up in person education because you are paranoid.

Chill dude. Hopefully you aren't anti-Xanax because you clearly need it or something similar. School is safe for kids now. Anyone willing to have their kids experimented on with a new vaccine is within their legal rights to do so.

Based on the Burbio data, if we aren't normal in fall we will stand alone with the west coast:

What's the rate of community spread where they don't have to wear masks any more?

Undefined because our experts keep treating us like idiots.

"One of the most important problems undermining the pandemic response has been the mistrust and paternalism that some public-health agencies and experts have exhibited toward the public. A key reason for this stance seems to be that some experts feared that people would respond to something that increased their safety—such as masks, rapid tests, or vaccines—by behaving recklessly."

So dumb. Seems like "normal life" is a good motivator for people. Jeez.

Hoping high school looks like a normal 5 day a week schedule, most kids are vaccinated and mashed, and all windows cracked open.

If you’re vaccinated I hope you don’t have to be masked. Most epidemiologists I follow say vaccinated people should get to throw their masks away once they reach a critical mass.

Well critical mass at this point is still close to Thanksgiving and Christmas, so that's beyond the beginning of the school year.

Amen to this.

There has to be some benefit of getting vaccinated! If we aren't going to get seriously ill or die, and we're unlikely to infect others, unmasking is the logical conclusion.

What? Things are way better than thanksgiving and Christmas.

New variants. If life returns to normal except for masks and open windows for awhile, that sounds pretty fabulous to me.

Your T-cells will still help with the scary v-v-v-v-variants.

Government and too many people blew it off last year, so recovery is dragged out by new variants now.
