Well, since you apparently don’t realize that waitstaff doesn’t get paid the same minimum wage as everyone else, it’s hard to take seriously that you have an informed opinion on this. |
This is a different issue. And I think you’re wrong. Minimum wage sure. |
There is a lot of fat at the top of the corporate milk jug. Time to shake it up. |
| How many jobs in the US will be required to increase their pay. How many jobs will be lost as a result? How much will taxes be increased to pay unemployment benefits for jobs lost? |
We won’t know the net benefits/costs for air w until we try but research suggests we will be in the black. |
|
The impact of a $15 minimum wage is few jobs and more automation.
The days of going into a fast food place or retail store and transacting with a human being will be completely gone. And the people who do those jobs now, will be unemployed and sitting at home 24/7 collecting their UBI (also on the way) while you work to support their lifestyle of leisure-subsistence. |
I just read where a WalMart in Surf City NC has gone to all self checkout, no more cashiers. |
| Give wait staff $15/hr and do away with tipping. |
Or like, actually tip on top of it for great service, and put it in a tip pool. Anyway, back of the house works as hard or harder than the front in most restaurants so this is fair. |
Workers shouldn't all have equal protections? A Starbucks employee is entitled to healthcare or FMLA but someone working for a very small business is SOL? |
Nope, I think employer sponsored healthcare is dumb. I like single payer. |
And I also like universal sick leave and early childcare I want every employer to pay into a system that provides it. I want bigger businesses to pay a bigger percentage.
Think bigger! |
Total.outlays on benefits may very well drop. One of the problems is that many minimum wage employees don't earn enough to not qualify for medicaid, food stamps etc. If someone has a full time job then they need to earn enough to not be welfare eligible. Otherwise all we are doing is subsidising private businesses. |
Pay them a proper salary and compensate them for that hard work instead. |
That’s what I said. Tips are nice too though. |
