What’s your favorite “not top 1000” name(s)?

Anonymous
Honestly, I found it a fun challenge to find a name that wasn’t anywhere near the top of the list yet was a normal name that also had a nice meaning. I wasn’t shooting for below 1000, but it is where we landed.

Our girls have run across a couple others with their names, but it is an unusual experience, not an everyday one like it was for me.

I don’t understand why you would actively seek this.

Don’t most people want to give their child a popular name instead of an obscure or archaic one?

It’s not like a name is some precious commodity.

No, not everyone wants to do what’s popular just because it’s popular. Some people actively seek popular, some people just don’t care, and some prefer unique. None are wrong, just different. And many of these names are known and familiar, just not currently on trend.

What you said. Exactly! Thank you

IT IS wrong to purposely make a selfish decision for somebody else. How many more people need to say that they hated having trendy names?

That being said, the name shouldn’t be embarrassing either.

Um, one could argue that naming your child is a selfish act no matter the name

And there are plenty of non embarrassing below 1000 names

Yes, one could argue for their narcissism, but someone else’s name should still be primarily about the carrier.

I’ve got a daughter with a name that is out of the top 1000. It’s not weird or made up. Teachers pronounce it correctly on the first try and no one bats an eye. It’s a family name but we’ve never met another little girl with it yet.
Son also has a family name. It’s currently in the high 300’s. Again very easy/ not made up weird or modern. Have met 2 kids with his name so far.
The names are out there. You just have to look.

My own name's popularity peaked in the 1920s, and dropped out of the top 1000 in the 1990s. It's a normal name, and there are a few famous people who share it. I love it.

You have to share then! I couldn't find the list so I guess I am basic and like names only in the top 1000

And some people just say to their spouse I like this name and when they agree say "that's it" and never even LOOK at the rank! That's what we did. Twice.

We all have our reasons for why we choose names

I mean, as long as you don’t complain after the fact “ I didn’t KNOW how popular it was!”

That’s called “negligence”. It’s how I ended up with a top 10 name that still hunts me.

I mean, that’s fine but not particularly relevant to the thread if you don’t share the names.

I never realized how big of a slut I was until I tried to think of a boys name without...memories.

My BFF and I both chose family boy names that are not in the top 1000. Both names of their grandpas. Not going to name them, so I don't out us. Both very easy, and memorable. Haven't ever run across anyone else who has them, though one person did tell me they knew someone by my son's name.
