Camp Rim Rock for sale?

It’s more than a few that he still owes money to and the reason counselors aren’t returning (and he is desperately reaching out to random former campers to be staff) is a product of his own behavior, not that of any specific counselors who are sharing how he treated them and their coworkers in hope of protecting others.

If a parent letter went out listing the returning leadership staff, could you share that?

Also does the letter discuss any changes to equestrian program?

My DD is a former CRR camper and she and a couple of her friends have gotten emails asking them to join staff. She showed me the job listing and it looks like they are way understaffed at this point, there were openings for everything

Email us at info@camprimrock.com to arrange a time to talk about what happened in 2020. We are happy to openly address any concerns or questions. We are happy to put you in touch with families and staff from last summer.
The summer of 2020 was stressful due to COVID. Fortunately, the campers had the wonderful experience our campers have always had. Additionally, our protocols resulted in nobody getting sick or even testing positive.
We gave our families the option to cancel at the last minute because of COVID. Unfortunately, the uncertainties of COVID caused many families to cancel or not sign up just prior to the beginning of camp. This severely strained our finances. We had half our families cancel or not enroll.
The bankruptcy is true, but we are emerging from bankruptcy in a strong financial position. Our families from last summer are returning as are those who canceled last year.
As for payment of counselors, almost every counselor was paid in full. Some were unclear about bonuses, taxes and time not worked due to the delay in opening camp. Those few who are owed money will be paid in full. The bankruptcy rules have limited how quickly we can pay the balance. We had specific issues with some of the counselors who have probably posted the comments. We are happy to address those issues to anybody that would like to reach out.
We will not name names online or their specific behavior online.
This will be our 70th summer of providing wonderful experiences to campers from around the world. We have always met our obligations to our camp families and counselors and will continue to do so. We are looking forward to hearing from you and seeing you this summer.

A simple Google search for Camp Rim Rock reviews brings up a bunch of sites, all with the identical message quoted above. Even if I have no idea about this thread, a cut and paste scattershot effort like that screams both desperation and creates concern that there is clearly a pretty big problem with the camp’s reputation. That alone knocks it off the list for me.

Also, the post alone would make me suspect. Very defensive, poor writing.

UGH! All of this makes me so nervous and I know DD will be crushed if it falls through and she can't do camp at all. Anyone know their refund policy? I couldn't find it on their site and I'd rather not ask yet...

PP, don’t count on a refund. The recent post obviously from CRR is sheer desperation. As a parent who had prepaid for last summer, as well as summers pre-covid, Joe handled the situation terribly and cannot be trusted. We pulled out early on well within their normal withdrawal policy and he kept deferring our refund. Based on how shady he behaved we can only logically conclude that their financial troubles began long before covid and the pandemic finally tipped the scales. We too are devastated, as our DD had a wonderful experience there, but cannot in good faith send her there again.

We are sending our DD (12) and at least one friend is going too. We’re a little nervous but it’s been such a great camp and there’s a huge incentive to make it successful (only way they don’t lose the property!) Our kid is fully vaxxed now too (not the 2 weeks post yet ) so not being fearful of that helps too.

My daughter was a counselor there last summer and still has not been paid at all. Not one cent. She heard from the owner several times, what's your account info?, what's your Venmo?,
etc. Still nothing. She is now part of the bankruptcy claim. All that being said, she loves being a camp counselor and if things had turned out differently she would be back this summer. They did contact her to come back this summer, which she of course flatly refused. She was pretty angry that they didn't even remember that they didn't pay her and thought she would come back after that.

It worries me that their staff facebook group for this year still has less than 30 members. When I worked there we had about 25 riding staff alone, which is necessary when you’re taking care of 70 horses and teaching dozens of riding lessons every day. I don’t see how camp can function without their usual 80+ staff

My 18 year old got multiple emails and letters from two camps she breifly attended many years ago offering her counselor spots. I think they are all desperate.

I have served as a nurse there for numerous years. My daughter has since aged out, but I continued on. While last year I could def feel the stressors (unlike prior years), my experience there has been nothing but good. While this certainly does not downplay the lack of payment to the employees who did work, times were tough across the board last year and many businesses failed. I can't imagine how many summer camps went out of business after not having an entire season's worth of income. I hope everyone is compensated for what they worked and paid and that the camp can rebound from the stressors that it is under. This camp was a great experience for my daughter and hopefully will be for those who are able to attend in the future.
