Anyone heard from your teacher about classes today?

because the science actually shows you will not DIE. you need to do your job.

What other school district has as many black teachers and a 70% obesity rate (ward 7&8) and is in person?

I knew it was only a matter of time.

The teachers at my children’s school are fabulous! I’m not impressed woth the WTU, and I’m less impressed with Ferebee and Bowser. But the trachers are wonderful and I support them.

The person who says they give generously? Please, I gagged a little in the back of my throat. Clearly you think teaching is a quid pro quo. It's not and you owe your child an apology for teaching them it is.

Give or don't give, no one cares and the new teacher will never know. Just like they never knew it was you before.

I echo this sentiment. The fact that teachers are even willing to risk jobs during this time shows me that something must be wrong in these schools for them to not want to go back. My child’s teacher has said multiple times that she wants to go back AND my teacher friends all across the district. When was the last time any of you idiots, or the mayor for that matter, taught anyone? I respect what the union is doing. Seems like they’re protecting your kids more than you are

Although both my kids’ core elementary teachers have called out, (which we understand) I want to salute/thank our special ed teacher who is holding small pullout sessions. That was a pleasant surprise.

I have zero respect for my kid’s teachers right now.

Same and agreed

Seriously. They get the entire rest of the week off from having to deign themselves to see children on a screen, they need to pull this nonsense as well while our taxes pay their salaries? Public sector unions should be banned.

It’s interesting how you think if they’re not working with kids they have the day off. You do know planning is work right?

Or should we stop paying lawyers, doctors, office workers, etc for any paperwork or planning they have to do?

First of all, please read the bolded part. I did not say they had the week off. Maybe your teacher called in "sick" the day that she was supposed to teach reading comprehension?

Also don't pretend that planning time is equivalent to actual teaching time in terms of benefit to children. The same with doctors and lawyers- if my doctor said that she had to cancel my appointment but would research my complaints in the intervening period I would not be happy with that. Adding two additional planning days to during a week when there were already two days without in person instruction is absolutely less taxing than actual teaching. My teacher friends go on and on about how much easier people with office jobs have it because they have to be "on" all day. Which I agree with and is why I wouldn't be a teacher BUT you can't then say that planning is the same amount of work as actual teaching. Yes it is work but not equivalent work.

I’m a teacher in a neighboring school district although I live in DC and my kids go to DCPS schools. Planning is actually a huge part of the job. I usually spend 4-6 hours planning for one lesson. Sometimes more and sometimes less. Maybe I spend more time than most because this is only my 3rd year teaching and I have a new prep this year. I also teach HS which is obviously very content heavy but planning is a very heavy burden

Preparing for litigation is a heavy burden for lawyers but that doesn't absolve them of going to court. Doctors put a lot of time into research and calling patients and writing notes but that doesn't mean they can get out of seeing patients.

The point is, if you only did planning and no teaching you would be FIRED because ultimately your job is to teach. The fact that planning is a large part of your job doesn't mean you can just randomly cancel two days of class.

Teachers need to stop thinking they are special- they aren't. Get in the classroom and teach or else leave the profession.

Oh come on. They are protecting themselves, not the kids. To suggest they don't want to go into the classroom to protect kids is laughable.

Janney 3rd also just called out. So has deal 7th.

Most disappointed in the number of emails that aren’t even being honest about why.

One says she’s calling in sick, another says today was a recognized holiday, one just states that today there are no classes as a matter of fact.

None, not one, admits it’s a collective action.

If there’s nothing to be ashamed of why make sure to obfuscate the truth?

Exactly. Be honest. Unless you are ashamed? Which you should be. This whole thing is a nightmare. When will it end?! Honestly. Teachers please tell me WHEN you will be willing to go back so I can adjust my expectations. Is it next fall? Or not even then.

WTU’s demands are unrelated to any safety improvements at this point.

2nd grader just found out and has no clue what happened. I sympathize with the teachers but honestly the only ones who are suffering are the children who can’t comprehend this at all.. is there no other way to make a statement instead of dragging children who have no fault in this. I am all for teacher and safety but honestly there has to be a better way

Yeah! We parents are sick of having our kids around all the time. Why don’t you loser teachers get back to our tax paid day care or leave. All us parents who are sick of dealing with our own kids at home would be more than happy to come deal with not just our own but all the other spoiled little s***s we secretly can’t stand. Right people? Show of hands. The parents will happily come teach and babysit 25 unrelated little demons. With a smile. And for free! Commies! :eye-roll:

Why didn't you answer? How come white people only care about black people when it's a trend or convenient for them? It's really hurtful.

You do realize that four year olds and Pk teachers are in person at pretty much every early childhood center/preschool/daycare in the DMV and the country, right? Dc is unique(ish) in that they have free public preschool but preschools are open. Your teachers are just refusing to work.

I care about the black kids being failed by the WTU. I care a lot less about adults who are failing them.

yeah I am normally very honest with my kid but can’t be now. He got an in-person slot so how am I supposed to explain that his teachers don’t want to teach him?
