No matter what Bowser agrees to, teachers will still refuse to go to work. There will always be some excuse.

It's time to put teachers' completely unreasonable objections aside, and get kids back in the classroom.

Funny how doctors and nurses can take care of sick people all day long without all the carrying on we see from teachers.

Who the f*ck cares.

Why isn’t EVERYONE back at work? Is everyone teleworking evil?

Why just teachers and not social workers, occupational therapists, physical therapists, speech pathologists, counselors, aides, school nurses, etc?

The teacher hate by the same three people is annoying. If you hate teachers HOMESCHOOL. Or MOVE.

Some people can do their work at home and some people cannot. It turns out that most teachers cannot. I know this hurts your professional pride, to be lumped in with people who work at grocery stores, and not office workers, but that is the reality of the situation.

If you can't accept this, quit.

Surgeons also can't work from home.

BTW if parents don't send their kids to school then it doesn't matter if the teacher is there.

I’m not sure why this person thinks I’d hate to be compared to a grocer. I’m eternally grateful to them and believe all grocery stores should just deliver.

The fact that they mentioned them is actually telling of what they think about them...

Also I am slated to teach in person, voluntarily. But I’m sick of this teacher bashing. A school environment is not just teachers and the WTU didn’t make any decisions. Being vocal is not the same thing as making decisions.

WTU made the decision to sue DCPS to prevent an in person return to schools. Decision.

PERB isn't suing. Look up what it is. DCPS violated a CONTRACT, what did they expect the WTU to do? Ignore the violation...that's rich.

Thank you. This is helpful. Most of the things on this list seem reasonable. Except the N95 masks- that's unreasonable when even our hospitals are struggling to procure enough of them.

Don't speak for me; what the union has done is a travesty.

Every time I leave my house I am taking a risk and until there is a vaccine it will never be safe.

The union's kool-aid is poisonous.

Then leave, oh wait you stay for the bonus don't you?

F*ckin hypocrite. Work at a charter school.

I am a different DCPS teacher and agree with PP. the vitriol is unnecessary and doesn’t help people support the union. I can be a union member without blindly agreeing with everything the union does. And I didn’t join DCPS for the union, I joined because I wanted to work in an urban public school system.

Be transparent, you joined for the bonus. You can't get it without being a member.

I also don't fully agree with the union but I'll stand by for a safe reopening, as long as we actually REOPEN.

Ha sure I joined the union for the $800 bonus I get after taxes. It’s probably a wash after you factor in union dues. I joined years ago when I was persuaded by the union rep at my school. But please keep making unfounded assumptions that every teacher who doesn’t agree with the union on this is money grubbing and a hypocrite or whatever.

It's about 7,500 after tax (DC tax). Guess you've never been highly effective before, figures. But to get that you have to be a part of the union.

No teacher teaching in NW is getting a 7500 bonus. I don’t know where you teach.
I also just said I don't agree with everything but I'm also not kissing strangers bums on a forum, just so I can seem like a 'different' teacher.

Probably teachers in an actual difficult school.

It’s not reasonable because it gives the union veto power over whether an individual school reopens. At this point I have no faith in WTU using that authority responsibly.

(and it also gives the clique of parents and community members on thr LSAT authority to scuttle a school reopening. This would be a disaster at many schools, where the busybodies most susceptible to influence and power are on the LSAT.)

Bonus! I wish it was as easy to get as some of you think.

Yes, you absolutely do NOT want to have someone who has never taught that grade level come in on the fly. Would you really be comfortable having a 6th grade teacher or Music teacher coming in to teach a 1st grader reading and math?

DP. Yes, why not? At least give us the choice.
