I don't think you actually understand (1) how logistically impossible this ask is in terms of worldwide resources or (2) what it would feel like to wear an n95 all day. Seriously, this is an unreasonable ask. Teachers would not even agree to wear an n95 all day once they realized what it would feel like. |
What? Ny doc friends are wearing N95s for their entire 10 hour shifts |
Many are not. I work in an ER as an RN. We (the staff) only wear N95s when we're with a known Covid positive patient and are doing something like intubating. My brother is in ER doctor in a Covid hot state. He wears a surgical mask except when intubating (when the virus is literally aerosolized in his face). |
Very few doctors do this. Definitely not standard protocol in CNMC. Doctors are also used to wearing masks in general and n95s specifically. The average teacher has no idea what an n95 would feel like. I bet if they required them, teachers would be up in arms. Seriously. |
| I find the TR survey interesting. I teach in NOVA and in my district almost 70% of families want in person. |
Are you at TR? You seem really upset by this. I'm sure no one thinks that those families who didn't respond are a non-issue; however, what else do you propose that TR do with these results? Ignoring the opinion of those who responded would be no different/just as bad as ignoring the opinion of those who did not respond. Unfortunately, the opinion of those who did not respond is not known. The fact is that for those families who did think it was important to respond, most wanted to continue distance learning. There is also a staff issue. Most of the staff are not ready to return for a variety of reasons. Many have children who attend school in surrounding jurisdictions and since those schools are not yet open, they don't know what to do with their own children. |
Uh no, LCPS elementary going back. FCPS K-2 going back. Western MD schools going back. Ann Arundel schools going back. Don’t know about MCPS and PG but I bet if rest MD and VA going back, so will they. Older kids in middle and high school don’t need parents home. |
No one said anything about ignoring the options of those that responded. It was said that PP said the opinions of those that did not respond did not matter and was a “non-issue”. Did the school ever think that some families can’t make that decision and did not respond to the survey without knowing the specifics of what the schools approach and processes was with hybrid?? I mean how hard is that not to think that could be a big reason. |
That have more than one class per grade right? And even if not teachers are certified for more than 1 grade level. Some teachers stay with DL others do hybrid simple. |
It’s not that hard to wear an N95 8-3pm with appropriate breaks. Not at all. I do. Re: availability, we could have all the N95s we needed by now. But Trump screwed up and didn’t ramp up production. Seems like it was intentional. And the whole Republican Party backed him for tax cuts for billionaires and judges. |
| I find the discussion of N95 masks hilarious. It is not on the list for staff to wear all the time. Why is it unreasonable to want some N95 masks available for the nurse or other staff members to use if a kids becomes symptomatic in the building? |
I have nothing to add, except I’ve always loved the name Oyster for a school. It makes me hungry every time. Thank you. |
Of course a teacher in this very thread said of course the WTU is asking for n95 masks and it’s a reasonable ask. Teachers have literally no idea what the union is asking for; why pretend otherwise? |
