Has your school communicated a plan with teachers and families?

Perfect, then the other 47% can go hybrid in person. Problem solved.

First of all, 100 minus 63 is 37, not 47.

Second, the schools can't do both DL and hybrid at the same time. They don't have the staff. You have to pick one or the other. Our school (not Two Rivers) cited this problem of "you can't do two things well" as a reason why they went with DL in August, and are now sticking with it through next year, because it can be continually improved, is the safest option, and a most parents are OK with it.

False. The survey said 51% wanted to continue DL, 49% preferred in person.

Is WTU proposing a different plan? I am open to alternative plans but extremely frustrated by the treading water that has been occurring.

This. The WTU's positions so far have been ridiculous. If they were to propose something reasonable (N95 masks, really?) I would be happy to support them. But they pretty much just have a head shaking response to everything.

Here’s what WTU wants. What’s unreasonable about wanting N95s??? DCPS won’t even provide masks for students!

Is that an accurate statement? My DCPS school said they would provide children with masks.

This is such an AWFUL plan, DCPS. Why aren’t we parents up in arms over this!?!

Uh who told that? Another teacher from the school would teach that grade level.

That isn't what we were told at my school. We were told exactly what is written above.

Yes, we were told that if all teachers for that grade qualified to not do in person teaching then we would not have an in person classroom for that grade. Also told that the teacher(s) staying virtual would pick up the students remaining virtual from the teacher now doing in person.

Schools will provide paper masks not N95s.

What is the plan for children that are unable to wear masks?

No, but somehow DCPS emailed me the timeline and plans/timeline for the Capitol Hill Cluster School. Haha. Anyone else get that by mistake?

Our ES had a town hall last night and will have more as plans are develop. They were quite transparent and are clearly working around the clock. I do not envy the task they have ahead of them. I hope the central office is responsive and helpful but I have my doubts.

Dcps teacher here with a child at Two Rivers. I am relieved that Two Rivers has prioritized students safety and has shared details in what they have done to ensure the safety of students in their school when they come back. They are surveying families about their DL experience and how they feel about coming back. They take feedback and adjust it to meet the needs of all students. They have a clear plan. I am happy that we were able to switch him from DCPS to Two Rivers.

As a teacher in DCPS, Two Rivers has shared more information than DCPS has and I am scared.

Of course the school isn’t providing every single student with a new n95 mask each day (which is what you would need for it to be meaningful). That would be a horrendous waste of resources and totally unnecessary.

To put this ask in perspective, ER docs don’t get n95s except when dealing with confirmed COVID positive patients for a non-incidental period of time or when doing certain procedures on patients (intimating and other high risk of aerosolization procedures) on patients for whom tests haven’t come back. They literally don’t get n95s when examining sick patients with COVID symptoms pre-diagnosis. That’s how scarce those resources are at the moment. But sure, yeah, reasonable ask WTU.

Presentation above included things happening now in regards to HVAC and filters, classroom restructuring, outside space restructuring. Plans also included specifics on school cleaning and process, bathroom logistics issues, sinks, fountains, etc... They also addressed flow of people in building (1 way), lunch logistics, classroom containment, student screening, process if staff/student contracted Covid, etc...

I thought it was a really well prepared plan and feel re-assured about it.

What school?

PP DCPS Schools will be providing paper masks to teachers and students. What is being provided for teachers that are working with students who are unable to wear masks? Plexiglass or is that just performative? Can special education teachers be able to move to a position that is more safe? I will happily teach in a position that decreases my risks.

I don’t think it’s an awful plan.

I’m glad you don’t. I dislike this plan because at my small school, one teacher will be in-person teaching 9 kid and the other teacher for that grade will be teaching up to 35 kids virtually. My kids aren’t doing great on DL, but we’ve at least gotten to a point where it’s mostly tolerable. We don’t have much of a shot getting an in-person spot, so my kids will thus have to transition to a whole new DL plan with a lot more students and potentially a different teacher. This is awful.

What will happen for term 3? For term 4? Will our kids have to constantly adjust to new plans and schedules?

This! It’s an unreasonable ask. Also they’re tight fitting and you’re going to decrease mask wearing compliance for kids if you’re asking them to wear those.
