.....keep doing a good job of being an 8th grader. Why would you do anything different? Get good grades in your classes, do things you enjoy.....

Fcps removed October 8 meeting. It is not on the website.

Is the vote on TJ admissions canceled?

It appears so. It turns out that if you take $25M from other jurisdictions for a magnet school, they want a say in admissions changes that could fundamentally change the school. Who would have thunk it? /s (Not Bra-band).

So is the merit lottery dead?

I am all for diversifying TJ. I am glad they are not doing a lottery. I don’t even think it would diversity the way that they want.

The meeting was moved, not canceled.

Why was it moved?

It is now on Friday 10/2

Looks like it is on 10/6 at 6:30 PM.. not 10/2.

Watching Brabrand fumble like this is such an embarrassment. Obviously he lacked any ability to manage a school system larger than Lynchburg.

Moved to 10/6 ..

Where are you seeing the meeting. Board a Docs has no meeting until a 10/7 public engagement committee meeting, agenda item: communication about governor’s school. Presume that’s when they will announce to the public.

The only other meeting currently on Board Docs is renaming Mosby Woods. Important and all. But how about returning students to Mosby Woods first?

I could be wrong, but that agenda item doesn't feel like an announcement. It feels like a discussion item about a communication plan for further outreach, etc.

Like most things that the School Board takes on, this is going from 80 MPH to reverse in a few weeks.

What is really being asked is whether parents should continue paying for test prep, you know, just in case their wildest dreams come true and they can return t the status quo.

Wrong. My kid has done zero test prep, but is really interested in the courses offered at TJ and has been asking when he can apply.

Or, maybe it diversifies exactly the way they want. It will let them claim to support URMs (something which will get school board members more votes), while increasing the percentage of whites at TJ (something which will get school board members more votes), while at the same time driving up enrollment at private schools (something which Brabrand is apparently a fan of).
