Goodbye, Washington DC.

I really tried to put down roots here. Lived in DC 25 years. But over the last 5 years I’ve seen 4 homicides within a block of my house. If I advocate for more effective policing I’m called a racist. I’ve lost faith in DC and especially it’s younger residents. So good luck to you all - you’ll need it.

^^dude you're on a bad block. You could have moved to a good block - doesn't have to be in an expensive area necessarily.

Today the mayor stated she cannot protect the citizens nor can she enforce the laws of the District of Columbia.

So residents of Georgetown should go stay with their friends in McLean for a few weeks if they want to sleep at night?

Everyone in Georgetown is a Limousine liberal and completely agrees with the cause du jour.

Marching in Georgetown.

Waste your time much?

Can’t wait to leave DC. Let the rioters have it. I’m sure it will be a wonderful place to live, similar to Chicago and St. Louis.

Welcome out of your coma. The "riots" (if you can call a few broken windows and trash can fires a riot) ended weeks ago in DC.

I'm guessing this is thanks to the overwhelming presence of federal officers downtown. I have not seen the police really "police" since any of this started. I'm not blaming them. They can such random directions.

You know, that Twitter feed together with the manifesto " good-bye letter" might be a red flag to report to FBI just for any domestic terror relations or recent gun purchases

Thinking of the lawyer who was doing all of that hostile suing of colleges for having women studies programs and then went postal and shot two of his perceived legal adversaries

Just sayin' there is a LOT of loose vitriol flying these days and it is NOT healthy

As for the crime in our cities :

1) Hand gun ban was overturned by a Republican who overseas the District AND that was done against objections of EVERY Mayor in America

2) letting people out of jail d/t covid was a BAD policy decsion. The kids who have been killed in DC were shot by men recently released from jail d/t covid

DC handgun ban was patently unconstitutional. And if you believe crimes in DC are being committed with lawfully possessed (let alone obtained from the ONE Federal Firearms Licensee in the District), I’ve got a bridge in New York I can sell you.

What they need to start with is “no deals” federal prosecution of every single felon in possession case that comes in, and have maximum sentences imposed.

I agree with that. Id like to hear from the restorative justice crowd. Police chief says most of these crimes are people with illegal handguns who keep getting released. The police are booking them. The charges are getting changed / dropped. What will you push prosecutors to do? "No deals" like above (esp. Since these are gun crimes and DC portrays itself as an anti gun city)? Try a different tack?

Who calls you a racist for advocating for more effective policing? Have you actually had someone call you racist for calling for more effective policing? Or are you racist and assume that all black people are racist against white people trying to better their neighborhoods? Or did you say something more inflammatory than "advocating for more effective policing" - is that a euphemism for something?

They were a super calming presence in DC. I was glad to see them protecting monuments etc. Zero issue with federal officers.
