Most players spend 90+% of a game without the ball.... |
Which then requires soccer IQ. |
LOL--of course. Again, your slow DD or DS is not going to make it to the higher levels. She/he needs to be athletic and smart. Unfortunately, you need to have athleticism to get to where you need to be and to fight for the ball when you get there. |
When a kid doesn’t know where they need to be and when to be there they need speed to get there. All players need speed but not all the time. Stop with the insults. My kid plays at a very high level and has more than the required speed. But all the speed in the world will not make up for not knowing where to be. |
You are hopeless. There are many situations where speed is required. Ditto agility and coordination. Stop acting like chess grandmaster Bobby Fischer would have made a great USMNT player; he wouldn't. It takes a composite of attributes, including smarts, to be a high level player. It's not just ball skill and soccer IQ, not by a longshot. |
Please point to where I ever said speed is not required. You really need to learn to read and learn to understand nuance. Of course speed is important, and so is IQ and so is skill. Not a single one is more important than the other. To play at a high/elite level you need all three. Full stop. |
| Slow kids won’t make it. |
+1. PP wants to make his point, but he pretty clearly is neglecting athleticism and overweighting ball skill and smarts. |
When I said multiple times now, you need speed. What is the problem with your reading skills? |
Ok “anonymous,” but you are all over the place on this
Relax! |
Many people post. You don’t who all the people are. I have been consistent with the point that you need speed AS WELL AS IQ and skill. Move on, we agree on this. |
| What I find interesting in all this is what is athleticism. We can argue all day on that too. Back I asked what fast is and I got 5-10 yard speed. So if we timed all the kids on 5 yard sprints, what would be the greatest difference? What if we did 10 yards? It's nothing. I remember Cruyff saying something like....he wasn't fast. He just reacted quicker to the ball so it made him look faster than the others. So if someone chimes in with 40 yards...how many times do kids need 40 yards dashes in a game. I mean...sometimes. Running onto long balls. So I love how everyone just throws the word "speed" around. Then to just throw the word "Athletic" around. And Agility and coordination. I just have a feeling you have no idea what the F you are talking about other than you know these words and you know it's good for a kid to have these things...but you really have no idea what they are and how they apply to soccer. And then soccer IQ. It's great that we have so many people that can judge kids' soccer IQ. I would love to know how you compare the kids's soccer IQ. Obviously we can tell a kid who never passes vs someone who does but to pick apart kids on top teams, I'd love to know how you you define it. |
Good coaches can spot IQ but most, as evidence of this thread simply don’t respect game IQ enough. |
| Great points. Forget physical tryouts, let’s just have them play FIFA ‘20 and pick teams that way. It fits well with the pandemic anyway, seeing as there’s no way there will be a fall (or likely spring) season with what’s been going on in the hot states over the past few weeks. |
