As a newish parent at the school, I hope she gets it. I don’t know her, but she has been the competent adult on every zoom about the unfolding leadership mess and DL. Much more so than the interim principal or outgoing AP. I think the interim principal seems OK. She has been dealt an incredibly difficult hand and the staff really does seem to be pulling together behind her, so I figure she can’t be as over her head as she seems in zoom calls. |
You have no idea what you started!!! Here come the ax grinders. Spoiler alert: it will end with unsubstantiated claims about her relationship with white families and failing to serve "inbounds" kids (you can guess what that means). |

Did you ever deal with Cobbs? We did and left Ludlow after a year during her tenure. She was there to serve what she liked to refer to as "her kind." Translation low SES AA students and their families. She was also rude, a reverse race baiter and dismissive of UMC in-boundary parents as a general rule. My spouse and I are not white, but we found her offensive. Yes, I know she did some good things management-wise, which paved the way for Ludlow to emerge as a primarily in-boundary school in the near future, from here in 2020. We were thrilled when she retired to Colorado.

Inbounds for Ludlow means overwhelmingly UMC and mostly white here in 2020.
If you don't like those demographics, you can always move to a city where by-right neighborhood schools haven't existed since the 70s e.g. San Fran or Boston. But you chose to live here, ax grinder. |
Anyone else ever notice how many posts on DCUM declare themselves not to be white in order to defend a position? If all of these people are to be believed then the DCUM readership must be like 80% non-white. |
I have noticed this and a lot of other threads and sometimes wonder if DCMUM is really only about 20 people posting non stop about the same things in every thread. |

If what you are implying about people masking their true feelings is accurate, then it has implications at the ballot box regardless of what the current poll numbers say. |
I heard this secondhand when we also did our one year at the school, in 2011. Cobbs was leading a meeting to educate current PK parents about K and beyond. During the event a UMC white parent asked a question and referred to the possibility of not continuing to K. Her response: "Well, we really don't care if you stay or leave." At that point I believe total enrollment for K and above was something like 90 students. It's a totally different school now, not just in terms of the demographics but also the quality of the leadership. |

It wasn't a secret that Cobbs wasn't interested in welcoming in-boundary families, or in retaining them. She barely tolerated them for 7 long years. That's why Ludlow is behind Maury and Brent in emerging as an in-boundary school. Glad to see Ludlow catching up and hope the leadership situation stabilizes.

In 2011 the enrollment at LT was 225. And it has increased every single year since. I don't have kids at LT and I didn't know Cobb, but I'm really interested to hear how the Cobb-detractors square the edges of a circle that had the school's enrollment, retention, test scores, IB ratios and % of white kids (which seems to be the measure people secretly care about) all trended favorably while she was there. Is the argument that it happened in spite of her? |
sounds like a clueless and annoying question from a privileged Pk parent. |
I was't there, but person who asked it was a huge LT cheerleader, at least up that point. And what kinds of principal doesn't want to at least pay lip service to encourage parents to like their school enough to not drop out? That doesn't mean "catering" to them or changing policies. As for the test scores, yes, those were impressive and reflected well on the school, especially in the older (testing) grades. But I can only say that our child's experience in PK was quite negative and harmful, because of an awful teacher (who has since left). |
| Based on enrollment, lottery results and test scores LT seems to be doing very well without all of the DCUM detractors. They have moved on without you; maybe time for you all to also move on? |
You are funny!
