The Karen meme silences White women

And you never paused to think that maybe she is hungry? Or offer to pay for her food? Why do people steal food? Just for fun, right?

Case in point. If you are white, you will never win with these people. You will be blamed for the crimes of others. Not worth it. Just let people steal. Not your fight.

I have to say that having worked for years in the service industry in both food and retail, that I found men and women to be equal opportunity complainers. The main difference is that occasionally a man might get very hostile or make a sexist comment.

Are you seriously defending a thief? She can go to a f::king food bank and stuff her bag.

Karen’s idea of “justice” is announcing how things SHOULD be done.

No, I thought of my best friend who works at a different trader joes who is having her hours cut becuase business is down from all the social distancing. I don’t care about thieves, use a food bank. Don’t steal! What is wrong with you? I’d report white people for doing the same!!

Karens are also security guards.

So we just stand by and let people steal? What is wrong with you?

I am AA. One of my nieces worked at the Lord & Taylor in Chevy Chase several years ago. She said white women would shoplift all the time, especially nicely dressed elderly white women, and security would escort them out the door after retrieving the shoplifted items. If the shoplifters were AA or Latino, security would more often than not call the police.

Correct. The very fact that you feel some obligation to “blow the whistle” makes you a Karen.

Nothing is wrong with me. Stealing is wrong. Calling people names (like Karen) is wrong. I have the moral compass to recognize this.

Our culture is so nasty and coarse I just try my best to remain anonymous. Not getting involved is the best way to do that. I have kids I need to raise, I can't have my life destroyed by some Twitter mob. Looking the other way and never speaking to strangers helps with that.

I ordered curbside pick up from a local smoothie shop a few weeks ago, before we were in phase 1 opening, the restaurant was advertising curbside Pick-up. I ordered my smoothie online, however, When I drove to the shop to pick it up there are a line of people inside the store to order and a line waiting (Inside as well) at the counter to pick up their smoothies. A year ago if this happened, pre-Karen meme, I would have said something along the lines of aren’t we supposed to be doing curbside? Why is everybody in the store? This time I just walked away.

Black people are being lynched. You had to wait in line for a smoothie. That is about the same.

No one said it was the same. Stop making stuff up.

Well then I’m proud to be Karen. I will not stand by and watch someone break the law, I don’t care what color you are. So POC shop lifters are okay, white shoplifters should be reported? This is nonsense. I didn’t even hesitate to report it because I have morals and it’s wrong to steal.

Maybe your niece should have been a Karen and spoken up.

I’m an AA woman and I don’t find “Karen” a meme. Rather, I find it to be a dehumanizing racial insult on par with every other racial insult we’ve endured. If we’re going to make a better world we need to get beyond the name-calling and insults. Everyone’s voice should be heard because everyone needs to actively play a part if we are going to move forward.

Our past is hurtful. Our past is hateful. Our past is shameful. We need to start moving beyond our past while never forgetting it. These racial insults keep us stuck in the mud.
