I am 40 and as a person of color, I can honestly say that I haven’t met a good one yet. Firefighters, yes, there are some great ones. But cops, no.

People are aholes to cops and they have a crappy job.

Firefighters have a pretty sweet gig and their job is about caring for people.

Two types of cops.
There are those who truly understand their job is about the people. Their job is to serve and protect the people - all people.
And then there are those who think their job is all about themselves. They think their job is about their authority to bully and harass people - some people more than others.

It’s way too many cops who think like the latter and far to few who understand like the former.

Agree about the two different types of cops. Although I think there are more good cops than you think. However, the current heightened anti-police sentiment is running the good cops out of the profession. So we will be left with an even higher share of the bad ones. Policing won't go away. Every society on earth has some sort of law enforcement mechanism. People should work smarter to make police departments better. But that won't happen without a collaborative approach. The condemnatory approach is making it worse.

Suburban snowflake here. Asian but nice house in mclean, good life. Had the two stories about how cops treated me as a Asian in one of the previous posts. Had something stolen from me and had the cop I called harassing me and put false facts in my police report making an Asian joke of sorts. This is what happened because as an I literally called the police when my private property is threatened. I felt equally violated by the police as the thieves.

The thing is people who steal probably had a lot of disadvantages to get to that point in their life.

The police, they have options in their life. They act with malice and disregard for the sanctity of their responsibility when they act up. They act up often and it is witnessed as being commonplace by the public.

There are riots going on right now and all I see cops doing is running people over with cars, shooting journalists in the eyes with paintballs, pepper spraying people at random, and generally inciting more violence. If my house is getting ransacked, I'm not inviting another angry mob to come make things worse.

There are many officers acting horribly, criminally, and they should be identified and fired, charged, if applicable.

There are also officers keeping the peace and diffusing situations, but you are not going to find YouTube clips or Tweets of those non-events.

Listen, if the rioters come for you house, you can call the police. Maybe they'll "defuse the situation" and maybe they'll run you over with a horse and you can scream "not all cops are bad!" as it tramples you. I'm not taking the risk.
