Langley 2020 College Destinations

I find that parents with huge chips on their shoulders and obvious insecurities are always those who jump at the opportunity to criticize other people's kids.

No one going to NoVA?

Probably a few but they didn't record a video. This was about 1/3 of the LHS graduates.

Langley has a status culture. Kids feel pressure to wear the right clothes/shoes, carry the right handbag, drive the right car. At least the friends I know who went there always felt that way. I would not be surprised if some parents opted out of the video because of where their kids were (or weren't) going. Feel free to blast me, Langley parents, but it is true.

I have to laugh when I read this nonsense. The kids there wear what all the other kids wear - girls wear leggings, oversized sweatshirts, and sneakers. Boys wear jeans, hoodies, and sneakers. NO ONE CARRIES "HANDBAGS." And cars run the gamut.

I went to Langley myself, many years ago, and never felt any of this "pressure" you claim. Stop perpetuating this idiotic (sub)urban myth.

+1 it’s 2020. Girls don’t wear juicy couture pants and zipups. The most expensive shoes I see are vans and adidas. They don’t wear mini skirts. It’s not 2007. Yes they still have fancy cars. Preppy clothes seem to have fallen by the wayside too. I haven’t seen a kid in vineyard vines, lily pulitzer, Ralph Lauren etc in about 4 years.

+2
The PPP likely has seen "Clueless" too many times and thinks high school is actually like that.

I’ve definitely seen Vineyard Vines and Ralph Lauren at LHS within the past year but so what? It’s not like it’s a mandatory uniform.

And at every other high school across the country...

Yeah, but there hasn't been a good "Langley sucks" thread in months. It's time to reopen DCUM. When can we get a "TJ sucks" thread going?

Go to the AAP forum and you’ll find the “Tj sucks” thread!

This isn’t a Langley sucks thread. You shouldn’t let one poster turn the thread into a pity party. The kids have something to look forward to - eventually - and that’s a good thing right now.

If we’re lucky.

For many of us, it's our life plan. Move to a decent house in a great VA school pyramid. Kid goes to instate for college, with several outstanding choices.

WTH are you babbling about? No one is trying to impress you, or anyone else. These kids are excited to share their college destinations. Sounds like you have a major case of sour grapes.

Cornell? Berkley? RIT? UVA. Mostly Average? LOL.

If you look at the information posted so far it's clear Langley kids are more likely to go to out-of-state public universities and private colleges and universities than kids at other schools.

That's where the extra family wealth is an advantage. If your kid can't get into UVA, but would rather go to Wisconsin, Penn State or Clemson than VT or JMU, many Langley parents will oblige.

Cranky PP claimed those parents then try to pass those schools off as "elite equivalents." There's zero indication that's the case, so he/she probably is just pissed the Langley kids have more options. But it's not his/her call as to how those families decide to use their financial resources.

It was started three days ago. Look for "WHy won't people send their kids to TJ due to high number of Asian students?" or something close to that. Really hateful and ignorant post.

Not sure why this is so difficult for some to comprehend.

This was our plan. Didn’t work out as intended as DS did not get into his VA college of choice, but not regrets. It’s still a solid plan — wouldn’t change a thing.
