Or lay them off. That’s what other businesses have to do if they can’t figure out a way to reopen. I’m so tired of all these people collecting tax payer funded paychecks to do nothing while we work more hours for less pay while homeschooling our kids.

We built a private kids library in our house. Yes we spent $1000s. I recognize this isn’t an option for everyone but it doesn’t change the fact that most public libraries are revolting. Homeless shelter, day care, social club for the solitary elderly. No thanks.

We buy books whenever they are on sale, so I would guess we have spend hundreds. We tried to use library for book resources when my child was young, and it did not work well. He did not like to read books, and I was tired to keep track of where borrowed books were at the house. One good thing to buy books is that he can read whenever he wants, and I don't have to worry about possible book damages & due dates. My book price ranges from $2/book up to $20/book, and we do kid magazine subscription.

If you’re too disorganized to use the library that’s fine. But it’s very different from the OP’s claim that libraries are gross. Btw, are you planning to resell or donate your books after your kid outgrows them?

I don’t get the need for gloves. Unless you have cuts on your hands, how are gloves better than just washing or sanitizing your hands frequently?
I also don’t really get the issue with why returned books can’t be segregated for a week prior to re-shelving. If the book bin is full, then you can’t return at that time. They can at least take some books. Full closures are okay for a period but at some point they need to figure these things out...I don’t think the Counties are going to continue to just pay peoole for doing nothing every day. The FY budget rolls over 7/1 and they are going to start to furlough, I’d bet.

PP here. My kids are young (1 & 4), and some books I have purchased already missing a few page, no book cover, tear & drawing. And most book damages were done by my oldest child when he was young. Now, he (4 year old) takes good care of books he owns, but it is now my 1 year old's turn to tear up & chew on some of the books. That is one of the big reasons that I buy books because they are my property, and I don't have to worry about what damages they have done. Once my kids outgrow them, I may pass down the good conditions ones to friends/family or keep some of them. We will see. We have access to both apple & amazon online books, but I still love to buy books that can hold my child's interests or whenever they are on sale. My 4 year old still does not like to go to library, and my messy house has so many random books of different types everywhere. However, amazingly he is currently a good reader, and he can read level c.

But it wouldn’t. The drop off slot empties into a bin. The librarian moves the bin away, labels it with a date in 7-10-?? days when the books will be safe for res helping, done. They don’t have to touch anything that came from someone’s home until it’s safe.

+1 the virus would be dead in 3 days. It doesn’t live on surfaces for even a week.

I mean, I'm in the same boat as you (my firm instituted pay cuts although I am working more hours than ever before while also dealing with my early elementary kids), but do you really think that the people who are receiving unemployment right now are happy to be doing that? At least you have a job. Unemployment won't last forever, and it's terrible for our economy to have so many people out of work. Seriously, get some empathy and see the bigger picture here. I get that you are struggling, and so am I, but directing your anger towards a group of people who just lost their jobs seems misplaced and unproductive.

I do too but that's sort of irrelevant at the moment. I like many things I can't have right now. Grow up and get a basic kindle with no backlighting. (Also why are you on this screen at 11:12 at night rather than reading your paper books?)

Seriously? There’s no reason we can’t open up libraries so people can pick up books on hold. There’s a reason I prefer libraries and not buying a kindle. I don’t want to spend the money. Can you understand that?

People getting sick has nothing to do with our preference for paper books. Books can sit in a bin for days and they will be perfectly safe. Calm down.

NP I have a preschooler so I don’t want her on screens. For myself, it’s fine. I do Kindle or Audiobooks
