We built a private kids library in our house. Yes we spent $1000s. I recognize this isn’t an option for everyone but it doesn’t change the fact that most public libraries are revolting. Homeless shelter, day care, social club for the solitary elderly. No thanks. [/quote]

We buy books whenever they are on sale, so I would guess we have spend hundreds. We tried to use library for book resources when my child was young, and it did not work well. He did not like to read books, and I was tired to keep track of where borrowed books were at the house. One good thing to buy books is that he can read whenever he wants, and I don't have to worry about possible book damages & due dates. My book price ranges from $2/book up to $20/book, and we do kid magazine subscription.[/quote]

If you’re too disorganized to use the library that’s fine. But it’s very different from the OP’s claim that libraries are gross. Btw, are you planning to resell or donate your books after your kid outgrows them?[/quote]
