Pretty much. And worse.

You all are so FOS.

President Trump didn't fire him in response to the briefing, He is literally REQUIRED BY LAW to step down.

From The New York Times:

"....under current law limiting the duration of postings for acting cabinet-level officials, Mr. Maguire must step down next month."

And, you do know that Ric Grenell has been pretty tough on Russia in his role as ambassador?

It was expected that Trump would nominate Maguire to be the official DNI, and that he would be confirmed by Congress. But he decided, right after the intelligence briefing, to replace Maguire with Grenell. It's technically not firing him. But that's what he did.

So Trump didn’t do as Congress expected. OK. Then?

Trump is doing what one who is abetting Russia, would do. Barr is dismantling the Department of Justice. Grennell and Patel will dismantle the Intelligence community, our schools are being undermined by DeVos - see a pattern? Trump is consolidating wealth and power into a very few at the expense of the health and well being of the masses. Unhealthy air and water, minimal if any education, no path forward except for the very rich. This is where we are headed.

Geez you people are hysterical. Everyone knows it’s largely a ceremonial position anyway, it’s the people in lower positions that do the work. I can’t get too worked up about it.

Used to be like that... things have changed since Trump took over. Power is consolidated in his and his cronies hands now. This is how democracy dies.

The guy was fired because Trump doesn’t want the intelligence community talking to congress. How on earth can anyone be blasé about that? That’s not “ceremonial”. JFC.

Because gop voters want authoritarianism. They’re stupid enough to think they’ll be in the favored group should that come to pass.

Why is foreign interference in our elections being politicized? The GOP are aiding and abetting Russia in this ploy. I guess the money washed through the NRA is reaping benefits for Putin.

How? Be specific.

By not passing, or even amending and sending back, any of the election security bills. Not even taking them up. There's no reasonable objection to the bills. Only... what?

How so?

“Trump has interpreted his acquittal by the Republican-controlled Senate as a writ of absolute power, and the only way to stop him is in an election he is determined to keep from being free or fair. This is how democracies are unmade.”

So, you copy some crap from Twitter from the guy who wrote a biased piece....https://twitter.com/AdamSerwer/status/1230126718180110336

Aside from this piece being a ridiculous piece of crap - from The Atlantic, no less - WTH does this have to do with "sleep waking toward a total Putin takeover?"

Your ad hominem response is not interesting, but a substantive discussion of this serious issue is welcome. Can you respond to the substance of the article?

No.

Trump doesn't read his briefings. Of course heard it from the GOP.

This is a lie. You know it.

The DNI is far from a ceremonial position. I don’t even know where some of you get this crap from.

I’m guessing most Americans didn’t even know this position exists, so it’s hard to get worked up about something they know nothing about.

It was pretty common knowledge that after 9/11, Congressional oversight demonstrated a lack of coordination among the different agencies. The oDNI and DNI positions were created to fill the gap. I am sorry if people don't remember or know this, but that doesn't make it something to be blase about.

I’m not defending them, but I think we are so immersed in politics and government in this area and that is 100% not the case in other parts of the country. People are going about their daily lives and not paying attention at all. Some of my relatives only watch their local news broadcast, if that.
