I think the USNWR reputation would go before Stanford. While Princeton is a great school and has been top ranked for 8 years or so, I don't know of anyone who really thinks it has overtaken Harvard at the pinnacle of the Ivy League. I'm sure cross-admit choices would show that. |

First time for Elon in the National Rankings.
#84 in National Universities (tie) #2 in Best Undergraduate Teaching #11 in Most Innovative Schools #2 in First-Year Experiences #1 in Learning Communities #5 in Senior Capstone #2 in Service Learning #4 in Co-ops/Internships #10 in Writing in the Disciplines (tie) #1 in Study Abroad #4 in Undergraduate Research/Creative Projects #370 in Top Performers on Social Mobility (tie) Santa Clara also made the move into the National Ramkings, appearing at #54. |
Agreed. As far as what impresses the average person on the street (which really what people who care about rankings care about), Harvard is #1 and it will take a seismic shift to shake that. Dropping the H bomb. |
' Well, W&M doesn't have a medical school. That really hurts on the "resources" assessment, even thought it may be more or less irrelevant to undergraduate education. Most of the top ranked schools have medical schools and the ones that don't (e.g. Princeton) tend to be super rich. Wake is perhaps the school most similar to W&M but it still has a medical school. I wonder how much that contributes to the difference in ranking because I think in areas like selectivity and reputation, W&M has been at least on the same level. |
Bro? Ever heard of University of Chicago? |
I think there is a slower to change reputation ranking in people's heads. (I think Forbes is probably closer to that.) If USNWR gets too far out of line from that (e.g. drop Stanford to 23) it will seem illegitimate. So they are toeing a line as this is their only cash cow. |
I'm a WUSTL alum and Chicago is definitely a better school. WUSTL is a better student experience, though. |
Yeah Money Magazine has UC Riverside or something as number one over like Princeton or something. WTF, bros? |
I’m convinced now, finally, they’ve jumped the shark. Elon is ranked as having better teaching than Yale and Georgetown! No way. Elon utilises a number or poorly paid adjuncts - they went on strike recently. This USNews list is trash. |
| What a joke how did Michigan rise to 25 |
Not about Elon, but what do those categories even mean? Does being #1 in study abroad mean you have the most programs? The greatest percentage of students going abroad? Or, is it some statement about the quality of the programs? It’s as if they create more and more categories so more schools (and alumni) can claim to be the best at something. |
By crushing UVA. |
Many people think Princeton offers a better undergraduate education than Harvard, so it all depends on what the ranking is purporting to measure. Other rankings may be more focused on the prestige of the entire university, including its graduate and professional schools, or the research prowess of different schools. |
Perhaps because most national universities could care less about teaching. Publish, bring in research, or perish. |
Fake news - no strike. |
