DH wants to spend his employee car allowance on this. I think it's tacky and low class

How is this much different? Every other UMC travel sports Catholic school parent drives one of these:

Not sure if you actually live in DC but the only people there who drive black Suburbans/Yukons/Escalades are for-hire drivers.

Nope my petite blonde mom of 2 neighbor has one in Arlington

Arlington is a suburb in VA.

You don't see these massive body-on-frame SUVs in DC proper unless they're being driven by an Uber Black SUV drivers.

You are kidding yourself if you think the majority of posters on DCUM actually live in DC proper.

Not sure if you actually live in the DC suburbs or not, but these are everywhere in Falls Church City.

I think you might be on the wrong site. I'm sure there's a MaterialisticSuburbanMomsFromNova.com where you can share your experiences.

I thought you said 'his' car allowance and not 'our' car allowance.

I don't ask my wife what I can drive and she doesn't ask for my opinion on her vehicle either. pick your battles. For the record, the fact that you think it's tacky probably makes him like it more.

Personally I think it's great. Very nice truck

Clogging up the streets and guzzling up so much fuel. These huge cars fill up any regular-sized lane and parking spot in the DMV. They cause deadlier accidents than ordinary cars, especially when children are struck. If you drive this type of vehicle I'm going to assume you're also in favor of fracking and sending troops to the Middle East to protect the oil that's needed to keep these monsters running. Yuck.

Has he considered the Ford Raptor? It looks more rugged and has more power to outrun the haters here.

Tacky capital T. The fully loaded Fords look far more elegant

I wouldn’t like it either, OP. Never pictured myself as climbing into a pickup truck with my family. However, if it would make him really happy, I’d swallow my pride and say yes.

Does your DH realize he looks like the ultimate poseur?

It is super tacky and high class to call your SUV a “truck” in the DC metro, so there is that.

I have an F250 with a ton of options but I have a farm and haul gooseneck trailers regularly. Honestly, OP, the biggest question is where you actually live. My truck barely fits in most city parking spaces. When I park at, say, the River Road Whole Foods, I have a few inches all around. People will think you can’t park even when you can, and get used to squeezing through tight doors. The spaces are sized for a city vehicle.

OP it’s bad that you think what car or truck your DH drives will make him low class.

I say if you can afford it, drive whatever you want.

Hillbilly pensioner - that's hilarious. If my hillbilly relatives had a pension, they would not spend it on that citified vehicle. Ain't nobody puttin' on airs with that fancy-pants thing - costs more than the trailer did and it's right uppity like you think yer better than everyone else.

The uppity hillbillies have SUVs and Harleys.

Trade association; i.e. schmoozing bureaucrat expensing cocktails and steak dinners.

Actually depending on the industry, he may fit in better with clients. I had a friend who worked for the NAM and there were a ton of hillbillies that she and her boss dealt with on a daily basis.

He'll be lucky to find a parking space for it.

I’m sorry your DH has small hands.

Make sure he gets the mod that lets him "roll coal".
