DH wants to spend his employee car allowance on this. I think it's tacky and low class

You sound like a pill. If it makes him happy who cares? Are you going to drive it?

I grew up in a farming area where people needed pickups. It seems silly to me for people around here who don't need them to have them, but I don't think it's "trashy" or "low class".

The only real problem I have, however, is when people get great big pickups and don't keep them in their lane. Whatever car you have, you should be able to control and drive responsibly. If you have to practice driving around in a parking lot, do so. If it's too big for you to keep in a single driving lane or parking space, get a smaller car. I don't mind cutting somebody slack if they have exceptional circumstances (driving a U-Haul or hauling something large home from a store), but somebody wanting to drive around town in a big car/truck, I don't consider an exceptional circumstance.

How is this much different? Every other UMC travel sports Catholic school parent drives one of these:

Not sure if you actually live in DC but the only people there who drive black Suburbans/Yukons/Escalades are for-hire drivers.

Lol, clearly you have not met the big3 eastern european moms.

Get the new Chevy Blazer or a mid-sized Cadillac sedan.

The new blazer is a basic SUV. No one drives a Cadillac anymore. Where on earth do you live?

Struggling to name decent American cars...

It’s tacky, environmentally destructive and very dangerous for pedestrians and other drivers. Absolutely no reason for people to have those things unless they need such a monster for their work.

I’d seriously wonder about who I married.

If he’s not getting a Tesla to save the earth this is fine.

It’s the Ivy dudes way of showing he is down to earth when he isn’t.

She married someone who lobbies for a trade association. This is totally consistent with the philosophy of that industry.

Make sure it fits in the garage at his office.

A colleague bought a big suburban when he got promoted, and had to park it across the street. The parking in our garage is free-to-us, but he had to pay $300/month after taxes for the other garage.

Is it electric? Tacky unless he works in construction daily and hauls materials.

You whining and nagging him about it will just make him want it more.

This made me laugh.

All pickup trucks are tacky, unless you're in construction.

So it is an employee car allowance so he uses it for work and it is a trade association that prefers American made which gives me the impression that for use in connection with his work it's probably pretty much on target. Maybe OP has been keeping his employer a secret.
