We shouldn’t have to live this way.

I never saw a zebra but my neighbor was killed in a mass shooting.

My relatives were killed by planes on 9/11. I don’t panic anytime I hear a plane c

I’m so sorry. I had a relative in the Pentagon, but he survived.

Completely agree.

And what do you agree with? This seems like herd mentality. Please explain your position. I'd love to talk about this but really don't get any feedback once people post empty statements. Please... let's discuss.

So some school shootings are okay? How many children blown apart by high powered rifles is okay with you? And because more people die from auto accidents than gun violence, we should just forget about the deaths caused by gun violence? So since more people die from heart disease than cancer, we should just forget about curing cancer?

You are so boring, PP. Happily no one is buying you crap anymore and laws are changing all over the country.

I won't diminish the tragedy of any school shooting, but you don't really understand how guns work, do you? You are either a fearmonger or a media parrot... I don't particularly like either. At what caliber do you consider a rifle 'high powered'?

But that's exactly what you are doing: diminishing the tragedies of innocent children being murdered while in school, at a time when we (as a society) have the tools to prevent them, but apparently don't care enough to do it.

How am I diminishing the tragedies? Just curious.

To 12:28, by derailing the discussion and bringing up topics that are not the point of the argument.

This whole thread is peppered with ad hominem attacks and strawman argumentation from the pro gun folks, while kids are dying and families are living in fear. It's the definition of terrorism.

On the bright side, there have been a few notable and appreciated exceptions where people actually engaged in a civilized debate about the subject at hand. Hopefully with more of that we can reduce gun deaths of innocent people.

My heart began racing and my throat tightened. My eyes filled with tears. My first thought was that there was a mass shooting at my son’s school.

Thank God, the police cars flew past my son’s school.

Why do we have to live like this?! Why would mowing down five-year-olds be my first thought?!

And before you tell me I need therapy or medication, you have to know that I am the calmest, most no hovering woman you ever met. I never worry. But a massshooting was still my first thought.

Please stop watching the news. Clearly too much for you.

I derailed the discussion because I said that someone (you?) thinks that guns blow apart children? In school shootings, rifles are used less than shotguns, which are used far less than pistols. But the media says AR-15 and you piss your pants. I'll leave you to your safe space and your chardonnay.

No one is diminishing the tragedy, but to say every time you hear police sirens you are panicked your child’s school is under attack of a mass shooter is not a rational thought. Why don’t you do the math on the likelihood of shooter killing kids in your school. The statistics are readily available.

“The statistical likelihood of any given public school student, being killed by a gun, in school, on any given day since 1999 is roughly 1 in 614,000,000.”

My niece and nephew were both at Columbine High School when the mass shooting happened. Both are parents now and with any siren it is their first terrifying thought.
