+ one million I would consider that it was 1986 and maybe this was some kind of a "thing", but my son is adopted and could definitely be considered a different race/ethnicity (as in it's physically obvious without a DNA test and he was born in another country). He has always self identified as white because he was raised in the white culture. His DNA would show otherwise to a much greater degree than Warren's did. |
Her career took an upward turn after she registered as an American Indian. It would appear that was her motive in doing this. Why would she suddenly decide to claim this heritage on a law license? |
Another native american issue that is HUGE right now. The bill started by Heitkamp about violence against native american women (Savanna's Act) was single handed squashed last year but a white republican guy who THANKFULLY was voted out at the midterms.
Murkowski revived it. https://www.huffingtonpost.com/entry/lisa-murkowski-violence-native-women-savannas-act_us_5c4f1d2be4b0287e5b8cfffa There is a great movie on Netflix called Wind River that I highly recommend. I encourage anyone complaining about Warren's self identification to educate themselves by watching it. |
Cherokee tribal membership is not based on DNA. Either band. AM I CHEROKEE? CAN I BE PART OF THE EBCI? These are frequently asked questions of the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians. Many people want to know about becoming a tribal member based on having a relative of Cherokee descent. Enrollment in the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians is governed by Cherokee Code, Chapter 49, Enrollment, and restricts enrollment to the following: A direct lineal ancestor must appear on the 1924 Baker Roll of the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians. You must possess at least 1/16 degree of Eastern Cherokee blood. Please note: Blood quantum is calculated from your ancestor listed on the 1924 Baker Roll. No DNA/blood testing is performed or acceptable for this calculation. To have this Roll searched, please contact the Enrollment Office to receive a form to complete and submit. The Enrollment Office provides a Cherokee genealogy research service searching records prior to the 1924 Baker Roll. These records date back to 1835 and enumerate the members of the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians within the limits of North Carolina, Tennessee, Georgia, and Alabama. This service does not aid in determining eligibility for enrollment with the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians. Warren is insane to claim she’s a Cherokee. They are extremely ruthless in their membership. |
Ah yes, you're the poster who thinks you're "schooling" the rest of us with your lectures on "incontrovertible proof". Just stop. Americans, even those with political axes to grind, know that there simply wasn't enough of *anything* to conclude that Kavanaugh had sexually assaulted anyone. You can claim there was corroborating evidence, but there simply wasn't. Goodbye. |
And what is Elizabeth Warren doing about issues affecting Native Americans? I mean, they're her people and all... |
+ two million! Warren is a total farce. And a filthy rich, farce. |
And this kind of dragging people through the mud for how they identified decades ago concerns me a bit. Your ds identifies this way now, but he could change his mind in the future. Or he could be criticized by people who claim he was turning his back on his heritage. I have multiracial kids and I see how easily this could happen to them. I think once we police how people self-identify it is a dangerous. |
This is from Warren's own website:
"Personnel documents from the University of Texas (including appointment forms in 1981, 1985, and 1988) show that she was listed as “white” while she was there. In December 1986, the Association of American Law Schools began including her in its minority law professor listings after she identified her Native American heritage." So, she didn't ALWAYS identify as an American Indian. Now, we know where they got that minority status. I am sure her website will be edited tonight when she gets home from the SOTU. https://facts.elizabethwarren.com/heritage-played-no-role-hiring/ |
Yawn. Under the Jim Crow philosophy of "one drop" she is Native American.
But I don't really care. Do you? |
There was evidence. No one is saying he should be put in to jail for it. Should he have a LIFETIME APPOINTMENT TO THE SUPREME COURT? Most people think no. |
How about we respond to each situation on its own merits... Elizabeth Warren lied. Donald Trump lied. |
She didn't claim to be a member of the tribe. Show me where she claimed that please. |
No self-identifying. You either is, or you ain't. |
OMG people. Can't even. I don't like how Warren handled release of her ancestry testing, but anyone who thinks that she is a beneficiary of affirmative action would not last a second in her law school class. |
