I'm sorry but this is just dumb... I think tons of families at every school(even Gburg, Wheaton, Northwest, SV, etc.) go to the beach over the summer. Going on ski trips? Most people do. Get new cars? Every school in the county. This isn't just a churchill thing. Every surrounding school is like this, and it is not a big deal. |
| You're misinformed, PP. Churchill is the epicenter of wealthy kids and families. Been down near Potomac Village and seen the streets of mansions? Those are your average Churchill kids. Very fancy cars, second and third homes, weekday and weekend staff - all pretty typical. Not so at Wootton or RM. But by all means, keep up your pretend narrative. There is a difference between a week at Bethany in a rental and owning a 5M beachfront home in Bethany. |
| I have a child at Churchill and a child at Northwest (custody stuff). We are not wealthy by any means. Churchill does have its share of very wealthy families. I've found the instruction and opportunities at Churchill to far outweigh those of the NW cluster, but obviously cannot speak to Wooton or RM which was the original question. Churchill seems to attract very good teachers and my child has generally loved all of them. The whole experience is really dependent on the level of effort and perspective of your child. |
Most people go on ski trips, and parents buy their kids new cars in every school in the county? |
This is incorrect. There are mansion dwellers, to be sure, but the majority of kids come from the surrounding neighborhoods which are solidly unpretentious. |
Solidly unpretentious neighborhoods where the median sale price of a house is $820,000. |
Rockville HS doesn't have empty seats. |
Median sale price of $800K crowd won't be owning 5M vacation houses as claimed earlier. |
In other words: "We're not rich rich, we're just rich!" |
|
We have also looked into buying in Potomac/Rockville and let me tell you we are at a loss on what to do with these new HS Woodward and Crown being proposed to be built and redistricting zones which may impact home values, what a mess. Not to mention deciding which of these 3 high schools would be a good fit. By the time my 3rd grader gets to be in HS, these changes will affect him.
Far as the 3, we don't want the pressure cooker Wootten is known for although we value academics and diversity but this would be our 1st or 2nd choice considering the strong academics and home costs. RM seems to be overcrowded with good number of immigrants, I believe they have a partnership with the county as allowing certain number of refuge students. We would consider Churchill if we could afford it, I think this would be a good fit with strong academics and sports and looks like the HS most likely not affected by woodward. |
| Oh no...not immigrants! |
RMHS has an agreement with the county to allow in certain # of refugees? Where is this agreement? I'd like to see it. I'm betting Churchill will be rezoned from the broader MCPS rezoning effort. I think sending Twinbrook ES to to Churchill is a possibility. OP, I'm assuming you are used to school rezoning every few years coming from HoCo since that is what they do. So, wherever you choose to live, just understand that it's not a guarantee that you will stay in the cluster you *thought* you'd be in. |
I'm going to assume that you're stirring the pot, here. Most of Twinbrook is walking distance to Richard Montgomery HS. |
|
If you are concerned about immigrants definitely avoid RM and really Rockville as a whole. RM families typically consider that a plus. You would not be comfortable. |
