What are you talking about? The CIP decision to expand Thoreau was made very recently. Falls Church High School's renovation was on the books way before they decided to add Thoreau's expansion to the CIP. Just another example of how certain people have more influence than others in the county. |
This. 1000x this. She can’t move on and it’s like arguing with a lunatic. You’re both crazy by the end. |
Why do you keep asserting there is only one poster who has been following this and thinks FCPS screwed up big time? You are wrong. Maybe we keep posting because your posts don't deal with the facts or substance, and just hurl personal insults. |
I have dealt with the facts (related to the education of kids attending those schools - lj and th) and they are ignored. Lj is less crowded. Th is not at capacity. Lj’s Enrollment didn’t “plummet.” I’ve not seen any posts about the kids’ educations suffering. How ‘bout them facts? |

There still hasn't been even ONE person with a kid at LJMS with a complaint about how things are going since the rezoning this fall. There hasn't been anyone with a kid at TMS complaining about the 30% increase in students this fall.
So, let the complainers complain about what they forecast and imagine. The doom hasn't happened. If it is going to happen, the smart thing to do would be to make sure Dalia and Pat and the principal at LJMS are doing what they can to keep things positive there. Beyond that, if you are unhappy with the results and LJMS becomes unacceptable to you, then move! I am 100% sure -- as you should be -- that the school board is not going to reverse the zoning decision. Might as well focus on the future. |
You are incorrect. They have already talked about doing an entire boundary decision in future years for all of Fairfax County that most certainly would affect these two schools. It wouldn't be reversed but it could be changed. That is ridiculous to expect people to move. Not everyone has the funds to do so. |
| And these discussions serve as reminders for what should be considered during a boundary review. So whether or not they end up affecting Thoreau and Luther Jackson, they do paint a picture of what needs to be taken into account for future boundary discussions. |
Not expecting people to move. But, practically speaking, it is one of your options if you are unhappy with how things settle out. You can be proactive and work with the situation now, find out how things are inside the walls of the school (not just on DCUM), and if you don't think LJMS is good enough for your child, you have the same options as everyone else who bought in a certain boundary and feels queezy about the MS or HS. You either suck it up and become one of the involved parents, you hire tutors if needed, or you move. Most likely, you'll stay. You'll find the like minded parents and your child will be fine, and move on to HS after two years. But, bringing the OHS kids back into LJMS is probably the least likely outcome. |
