Nothing special. They just applied and got them. |

OMG - OR, radical idea - go to their local public elementary school! (GASP!) |
Sure. Define local. Because right now the kids directly across the street from JH aren't even attending the school. |
And I've met families who live down the street who are zoned for Maury who have requested to go to JH instead. We all have anecdotes. |
| ACPS still remains a cluster! |
| My child goes to JH, is in upper elementary and we transferred there this year from a local private. I'm happier with the education received this year than DC world have received at the private. The two teachers are far and away better prepared, the curriculum is more exacting and s/he gets incredible attention due to smaller class size. TAG for language arts and Mark had meant a lot of advanced work for grade level. All in all, I am very happy with our decision |
Yeah, sure! |
You sound like a realtor with a house for sale in J-H. |
Or a SAHM whose husband got fired and they had to tuck tail, pull the kid from private, and circle the wagons.
|
Ignoring the people who aren't adding anything productive to the conversation, what's TAG and Mark? |
TAG = Talented and gifted |
If you don't mind sharing, what private were you at before? |
Mark=math For all those making rude and ridiculous assumptions about my intentions or situation, you are all wrong. Not a realtor, no one has lost a job, not delusional. Just providing my opinion about the school in the hopes of showing that going there is not the end of the world, your child will learn, the teachers are excellent, and little larla/o is not going to come home with either a shiv or a vocabulary out of urban dictionary. I would hazard to guess that those who make wild assumptions have absolutely no clue what they're talking about. |
PP, I'm sorry but this sort of reaction is the reason we found living in Old Town to be awful. People are ridiculous snobs in Alexandria. Just go to Society Fair in the middle of the day and listen to the ridiculous conversations. It's mind boggling. That said, we have friends who sent their kids to JH for K. They went to school with our kiddo for preschool and we've kept in touch at birthday parties, etc. All three of them have reported a positive experience and really seem to like the school. They are all still there and have indicated that if they continue to like it, they would really prefer to keep them there for a smaller middle school experience. Apparently, the K-8 model is actually the best one for kids to adjust and get through middle school (one of my friends is a teacher in PG county told me this). We ended up moving from old town because our tiny, tiny 2 bedroom rowhouse I bought as a single women 15 years ago was too small for our family of four and we could not find anything we liked in Alexandria City. We live in Fairfax in what people would call a "good" school district and I find myself missing the diversity we had when we lived in old town (just talking about our preschool which was awesome, diverse and nuturing). It's a little nuts out here but that's a whole another thread to talk about. |
