Y'all would be miserable near us. We grind coffee at 5am.
Ignore the note. Its within the bounds of normal behavior and they chose to live in adjoining units where slillover noise is expected |
I read this whole thing and came away with a totally different impression. It’s like we’re not reading the same words. |
You really think op should move because of this? |
Then y’all are selfish inconsiderate a$$holes. Own it. Grinding coffee beans at 5 am is not in any way, shape or form “normal behavior” at 5 am. Unless you care about no one but yourself, then of course it is. |

OP and her DH are just pretentious and silly.
I absolutely guarantee I could make you two cups of coffee -- one with freshly ground beans and one with beans ground a month ago -- and you couldn't tell the difference. And, as a PP noted, a smoothie is just yogurt and fruit and noise. Try skipping the noise part. |
If that’s pretentious and silly, then I am too. My smoothie by the way is almond milk, spinach, bananas and frozen strawberries. I’m not going to have it un-blended. |
| has the neighbor ever heard of ear plugs? this is not your problem, op. |
Yep. If you looked up the definition of pretentious, this would be it. |
Exactly. It’s apartment living. Your neighbor is being exceptionally prickly, and specific. I suspect also more of the contrary responses are from one or two people. |
| The neighbor is being ridiculous. Keep on doing what you're doing. |
Yay. I’m gonna put it in a fancy glass and drink it with my pinky up. |
|
OP you seem fairly reasonable and it is entirely possible that if you went all out to accommodate this your neighbor would complain about something else.
That said, if this is a new neighbor and you will be there for a while investing a little in cordial relations may end up paying off. Nobody wants to feel angry seeing their neighbors. I think if grinding the night before (we do that) is similar in taste, it's easy. Is there somewhere else you can put the blender in your kitchen that would be further from their walls and get a foam mat for it? Also, 3 minutes seems like a long blend.. the time probably doesn't matter but perhaps you will find that a lower speed will work just as well and make less noise. I wouldn't go crazy but if your husband is an engineer you could make these little things a fun, jokey project with a sense of humor. Then you can say you did your best. If your neighbor is still complaining it is on him, but making a show of not making a gesture if his request is civil might create unneeded bad blood between you. It is totally within your rights of course, but just might not be much to your advantage in the end. |
Better yet, have Jeeves prepare it for you. |
|
OP, I wouldn't worry about it. 6am on a weekday is fine to make coffee and smoothies. If you are that sensitive to noise, you shouldn't live somewhere with shared walls.
|
| Maybe not in an apartment with college kids, but 6 am for grownups with responsibility is very reasonable. |
