Fake News...several Cops live in Tuckahoe and Discovery neighborhoods |
It worries me, too; but then I look at how the vast majority of deFerranti's fundraising has come from outside of Arlington and the fact that he just put in $45K himself.....I live in south Arlington and see far more Vihstadt signs in individuals' yards than deFerranti, despite the deluge of Blue Wave and deferranti signs in median strips. And I can only hope that his comments at candidate forums like "We can't just cut" in reference to the budget confirms in peoples' minds that, not only does he have nothing to offer over JV, but he will only mark a return of the Hynes/Fisette/Tejada triumvirate. I fear what that will bring to Arlington and mean to families like mine who are no where near the 1%ers. |
And McKinley. |
Like I said, big houses farther out. If you can live in either of those zones, you are well off, and probably rich by any reasonable definition. |

A friend of mine is putting on an event for de Ferranti, and I am trying to figure out how to tell her I'm voting for Vihstadt. I don't really want to attend the event because it'll feel like an endorsement. (and he might ask for money. I am already supporting several candidates.)
Yes, I'm a Democrat. Yes, I'm voting for D's for all the major offices (Senate, etc.) Yes, I have a lot of problems with R's right now. But I also think that our county board and school board can get a little too one-sided and it's good to have a little balance. I don't think it's healthy for a county to be run solely by one political party, regardless of which party that is. |
Ah advocates always claim it's public servants, not penniless immigrants who use ah. It's bs and the fact that cops live in a neighborhood where SFH go for 800 grand only backs that up. |
Just post it on FB and be done with it.
Those of us who support Vihstadt need to say so. I think this will be a close race, and Arlington desperately needs independents. One party rule is not good. |
+1 Different poster here. I have a friend who is a big MdeF booster and I have a yard sign for Vihstadt. Any charitable DCUM soul want to draft my FB post? I'm not that active and lousy at pith. |

How about:
"Proud to support JV. If I've learned anything in the last 2 years it's that single party government is a bad idea." Then post a pic of your Vihstadt sign. I always vote Dem, but I would never vote for anyone from the ACDC. A vote for the ACDC is a vote for unmanaged development. |
Stfu Most ACPD DO NOT live in Arlington. Certainly no one who joined the force on the last 8 years. Can it with that crap. |
Then I guess we don't really need affordable housing specifically for firefighters and police officers as suggested in all the advocacy for more committed affordable housing. |
Depending on how bold a person you are, you could attend and ask the blunt questions and lay it all out there....might influence some other votes, or at least get a few to think more carefully before copying the sample democrat ballot blindly. |
A lot of them do want to live here, they just can't afford to. About the only option for a younger officer is taking a discounted unit in Barcroft Apts, and that's just not what many of them want to come home to at night - especially if they're married with kids. That's the hypocrisy of AH in Arlington: it really does nothing for blue collar workers, public servants or teachers. It's almost entirely geared towards recent immigrants and people living in abject poverty. ACAH thinks living in the County is a "right," just not one that teachers or cops should have. |
That's simply not true. A newly minted police officer hired by the ACPD makes 53k a year and gets overtime, bilingual pay, and can retire after 25 years. 53k for a single 23 year old is good money, and enough to live in this county. For a single household, that's 70% of area medium income on the first day of your working career. And it does qualify them for rental assistance. But that's only if they don't work any overtime, doing that would prob disqualify them. That's the dirty secret about the AH is these luxury buildings. It's filled by a revolving door of recent college graduates who qualify for a year or two until they get their first raise or job change and salary bump. |
